Oddball Tire
 

My new to me 07 EL has three Pirelli Scorpions, and one BS Dueler HL (right rear). I can't believe I didn't notice this before I left the dealer, and have tried to get them to fix this, but no luck.

So my question is, how bad is this? The size is the same, both are highway treads, and the wear is similar. I've been reading that with the advancetrack and all the computerized diffs in these things nowadays, that I should not be driving it this way.

I have put about 4,000 miles on it, and with half the treadlife still there I hate to have to buy 4 new tires. But if it's a small price to pay now to avoid problems later, then I guess I have to do it. BTW, the spare is a dueler as well. So I could have it remounted on the clad rim and at least have matching tires on each axle. But I wanted to hear your opinions on this before I half-arse something and screw something up. Thanks!

If the spare is servicable, I would mount that up and at least have matching tires on each axle.

With half tread, no checks, no damage, you are probably safe through the summer, but when you start to get worse weather, you might take a close look at new sneakers.....jmo.

Diameter is the only thing the Advancetrak and similar systems look at, so as long as the diameter is the same, you are good.

Don't worry about it. The advance trac won't notice the tire difference.

When the OEM tires wore out I put on Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires. Gotta be the best SUV tire on the market from my perspective.

Run quiet, competent on dry and especially on wet roads, good ride. We get 12 feet of snow here on the North Coast and I've not felt the need for snow or "off road" tires.

I have them on my Explorer as well and my daughter had driven home 300+ miles in snowstorms without a hint of getting stuck or losing control.

Thanks. I have the alenzas on my explorer and they have been my favorites so far. I thought my bearings were going bad when I had firestone destination ATs on, and found out it was just tire noise after I put the alenzas on because it was gone. The only thing I don't like is the flat spotting.

I have decided to just bite the bullet and get new tires, and have settled on the LT M/S2's. A little more than the alenzas, but I'm hoping for less flat spotting and from what I hear more miles. Thanks to everyone that provided feedback.

You'll love the LTX M/S2s. Awesome tire for all around everyday use. Hard to beat, aside from the initial price.
