Paint colors
 

I just purchased a 1979 f150 ranger super cab. It's a gorgeous old truck; exactly what I've been looking for, and it's been a long time coming. It's got a few dings, rust spots, and even a pinky sized hole or two. But for 31 years old in upstate, NY....It's pretty darn good. The 351 in it runs like a champ. It's got more a$$ than a donkey farm.

My father and I have been arguing about the paint, where to find the codes, etc. I've looked at the door and checked out the plaque there. I can't make heads or tails of it. That's where I was hoping someone here could. I'd like to get rid of the rust and touch it up. I'm not restoring it or anything, just don't want it to get any worse. Thanks for the help anybody can provide! :)

these trucks are hard to determine the paint codes but u can take ur trk to a automotive paint supplier n they can scan it n give u ur paint codes ive found this is the easyest way to get a almost perfect match n by the way thats a swet truck oh n let me guess ur lil one says its his trk that what mine always did lol good luck hope this helps

Paint code is "SM" ....

S is 2472 "Brt. Dark Blue Poly"

M is 8378 "Wimbledon White". (I know, it just says "White" on this chart, it's "Wimbledon White", an old favorite. Older charts same # have whole name)

Thanks tbear, I got a smoking deal, almost obscenely so. It was on craigslist for $3,500. I went and looked at it, offered the guy $2500(cause that's how much $ I had), and he accepted. We left to get the money out of the bank. As we were pulling out of the driveway, the guy came running out and said the radiator was leaking out of the front. oh boy... But then guy said if I would still pay the agreed amount, he would replace the radiator and have it delivered to my house! :-X04 Fine with me!! That was Friday. Saturday afternoon I got a call from the guy asking if he could wait till Sunday cause he was on his way to my house and noticed the brakes were a little spongy and he "didn't want to sell junk." He replaced the rotors and pads in the front. He wanted to replace the rear drum too but I said he had to stop. It was getting a little embarrassing. And to top it off, it has only 58K miles on it!!

So to say I got a deal is an understatement. :-X22

Paint that's original looking (can you tell if it's been re-painted?) , and those colors (love 'em), ext cab, 8 ft bed, 351M, still shiney chrome, 58K miles, he fixes the radiator and does front drake work ..... and he took a drop offer from 3500 down to 2500?

And you found this in NY?

You should have problems sleeping at night.:D


You might still get a better paint match by having the paint shop read the color off the truck itself though, to take into account any fading. They may tell you it hasn't faded though ..... if that's original, she's spent a lot of time in the dark.

nice looking truck love the color combo sounds like a good deal on this one is a under statement. What did it cost the guy to fix the truck? an he still took 1K less than what he had it listed as an still did all that to it.

In addition to his generosity, the guy was just super friendly, engaging to talk to, etc. Real one of a kind person. Reminded me of my Dad actually. He owned a septic cleaning business($$$) and was a major truck buff/motorhead to boot. He had three other "toy" trucks I know about at his shop where this truck was. So it was defiantly a hobby for him. I think he took pity on me as well because I told him I'd been looking for a truck like this for years. I'm glad we met up! Thanks Scott!! :-X22
