Another Duraspark II Question:

I went up and down the threads of the duraspark conversions, I understand the wiring, and how i cant put a 302w distributor in a 351w.
I read alot of fellow members got donor motors with the setup already in place. And I also found out that alot of the parts can either be found in a scrapyard or a local parts store.

I got a 69' 351w, Im in the process of rewiring the whole truck from Rebel wiring, so id like to have a newer ignition setup.

My question is: Couldn't I just go to a local auto parts store and ask for a Distributor &(cap n rotor), Ignition module, coil from a 1976 Ford LTD with a 351w? Would the distributor bolt right in my 69' block? And run my wires to the ignition module to coil etc etc.

Am i missing something???

Thanks for your time guys :-drink

Yup you nailed it..... it is actually a fairly easy swap if you know how to put in a distributor and read a basic wiring diagram :) so go for it...........

Thanks for the link sparky, then that's what ill do! Another question: do I still use the voltage regulator specificly for the 76 ignition setup or does the regulator work for lots of years?

The voltage regulator is a function of the charging system, not the ignition. That won't matter for your Duraspark swap.

While your plan to get the parts you need is a great one, and will fit perfect, keep in mind that the timing curve built into the '70's distributor is not the most ideal for performance, since they were set up for smog motors. If you take your new distributor to someone who can recurve it, your engine will run a lot better.

Good looking out 52 Merc :-drink, I Never thought of the smog control.....thats something i need to consider changing in the near future. Im just getting much closer to firing this baby up :-X04.
