Grease zirk problems - leaf spring pins
 

I recently put all new bushings and pins into my front and rear leaf springs on the 54 F250. The kits came from Dennis Carpenter. They had to be dry iced and pressed into the eyes and brackets but they went in. The pins were also lightly greased prior to insertion into the bushings. After assembly I tried to put grease into the pins via the grease zirks but it is virtually impossible. No matter how hard I try I can only get a pump or two into each pins. I haven't been able to get any grease oozing out. A friend suggested driving the truck to loosen things up but it's still in a rolling chassis. I hate to put everything back together if there is a deeper problem. Does any have a suggestion? Will things loosen up with some light test drives enough for me to get the grease in there? Is there a deeper problem I should be looking at? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'd suspect something wrong with the zerk fitting itself. Take it off and try it with the gun.

I had one set of bushings that were really tight like that. I had to use a ream to get the bushings to the correct size. I had other bushings that slid together just fine right out of the box. They should slide in smoothly with a little grease and you should not have to fight to get them in.

I had a similar issue with the new zerk fittings and parts on the springs. Turns out the grease gun I was using had a sloppy connection and wouldn't engage the zerk fitting.

Happened to me too, sort of in the opposite way. For every oz. I got into the fitting, 2 or 3 would leak out around the end of the coupler. I bought a new hose and coupler at NAPA and instantly had zero leakage.

That's what I tried to describe. Same thing happened to me. Couldn't figure it out at first as to why it was happening. I thought something was wrong with the zerk fittings and/or the pins. Once I used another grease gun, the problem was resolved.

Will switch to a new gun over the weekend and will update. Thanks for the replies.

Replaced all my pins and bushings, got them from LMC, the pins had a bunch trash inside, cleaned them, a few were tight, took wood dowel and cut a slit the same size as some emory cloth, the kind plumbers use, wraped the emory cloth around the dowel until the same size as the pin, chucked it up in my battery drill and honed out the spring bushing a little, pin slid right in.:D
