How long do these tucks tend to sit like this.

I found I do better if I put down the camera and pick up the wrenches........ grins!!

Well, let's see.... I bought my 53 in 4/03 and took it on it's first ride in 5/08, so it's just how much time and $$$ you have to throw at them. My truck is far from being "finished" but I am driving it as I slowly try to work on it.

iwanaflattie 06-05-2011 05:55 PM

I have a small list to do but I have no idea where to start and the heat is not helping.
real reason:Im lazy.
*Need to fab a shroud
*change gaskets
*make under the hood presentable, its a chevy so it wont look pretty but I want presentable
*fix broken exhaust manifold bolt
*paint the manifold
WHERE TO START?????

Like Mother Nature, nothing is in a hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

Mine's been a bare frame for about 3 years now, and was a stripped body on frame for 15 years before that (PO during most of that time)

jniolon 06-05-2011 06:04 PM

I got you all beat..... drug it off the trailer in '95

had it half built in 2000...

tore it back down to the frame in '02...

here it is today

I have 12 years or so to do body work buy this is my dd.
Right now I just want to fix the mechanical part so I can drive it again.
I just wanted to hear the optimistic opinions and experiences from you guys!!!!
I guess I should not have asked!!!!LOL
I dont want to wait years to drive it again.
You guys are motivating me to finish my small list to get it running again.
There is so many things I want to do now that I have easy acces to it.
No I can deal with a little wire being out of place.:)
must not let it sit

My rule is very simple, everyday do some for it. It can be big or it can be very small. The progression of getting things done will start and before you know it you will have a fresh list of things you want to do. You have got to know by now these are never finished...

It's my understanding that they stay in pieces until they tell you to put them back together!! It's only been three years that mine has been apart. Of course it sat for 4 years undriven before that!

Mine took just under 10yrs. 5 sitting while i worked on my teenagers cars.

A new neighbor moved in and just before thxgiving, he rolled his freshly painted 5 window chevy truck off the trailer into his garage. That kicked me into gear.

I bought mine in 1975, for $30. I was 15 and worked on it until I had it ready to drive when I turned 16, and got a license. I drove it for several years then started taking it apart, putting it back together, and driving it a little more.

It has never been a "nice" truck, but it has always been fun.

It is currently in it's second, and hopefully last, frame off. I'm going to make it nice enough to be a driver. Not a show truck, but complete and dependable.

Whenever I am draggin', not really into fixing something, I just wander out to the garage and start fiddling around. Soon enough I'll be doing something, not necessarily what I intended, but something. I find it takes far less time to do a job than it does to think about doing it.

i'm with ross .... fiddlin" leads to positive things . and yep it'll run again as they all will . mines been down for 2 years and 1/2 , and the 52 has been sitting for dain near 9 months now thanx to the wiring disaster . the 52 will or should be running again , and one of these moons my bessie , the 53 will be a running truck / non truck { it's working days are over !!!! } . just keep plugging away , and if the chance presents itself take that boat anchor outta the engine bay and use it to do just that , anchor a boat or the person who put it there , to the bottom of the nearest deep body of water ................... LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-missingt:-missingt:-X24:-X24

How long is a string?
How high is up?
What came first the chicken or the egg?
Why is there air?

It is an enigma best not pondered...so start wrenching and it will all be revealed to you!

mOROTBREATH 06-05-2011 10:02 PM

I just realized it took me 1.5 years to get mine on the road. :-X10 Seems like about three weeks looking back, but then again time flies when your cussing, jumping, screaming, and throwing the remainder of you truck around the yard...
