Remote door locks lazy
 

Hi guys,

Hope this is the correct forum for this topic... So here's the deal... The door locks on my 2000 F-250SD super cab are lazy... To describe that condition, they seem to be lacking power and will not go fully down or fully up... They try to activate but do not move the full travel to either unlock them or lock them... I should mention that the locks are lazy with both the remote and the actual door lock buttons...

Funny thing is the aftermarket tailgate lock works fine... I've cleaned the door lock switches and checked the wiring where the tailgate lock splices in to the wiring - all seem OK... Battery is up and reads 12.44 volts without the motor running...

I have both the Haynes and Clymer manuals but details for the door locks are sketchy at best... They refer to a "generic controller" and I can see relays within the wiring diagrams, but no mention as to where the relays or controller are located... One of the manuals mentions the battery junction box but again, no mention as to where it is located...

It's acting like a bad 12 volt connection or maybe a bad ground... Maybe the so called controller is bad but that doesn't explain why the tailgate lock is working... I'm stumped... :-banghead

Can anyone point me in the right direction here - I'd like to get them working again...

Thanks for that... I think I may have found a fix and pretty economical at that... Was searching and ran across this from the FTE forums some time ago - my exact problem...

That fix will work, but you have to be careful about holding the lock/unlock button down too long, do you have kids?

I did the fix eliminating the failed component in the actuator motor, then replaced them inline with the power at a more convenient place where the loom passes by a hole in the door. I've got a post in that thread about it, it was annoying to learn how to get them apart but a nice and cheap fix.

I'll tear into the fix as soon as I get a bit more time but it sounds pretty easy... No kids here except for my 16 year old granddaughter so that won't be an issue...

What was the fix for your locks i have the exact same problem

Click on the link in the third post down - that's exactly how mine are acting so I assume it's the PTC device on the actuators...
