Clutch or bent fork?
 

Hi there I have a '02 F350 with the manual. I've done some searching and not sure what my problem is I was thinking the it was for sure the clutch. The truck is a beast to shift. Trying to get it in low while the truck is running is impossible (shut truck off shifts right in) all other gears are hard also, when driving and shifting I can barely shift also. Once I get it in gear I don't use the clutch as it just doesn't work. I'm thinking clutch as it seems like I have the updated fork it sounds like. With my clutch on the floor if I release it a 1/16" it's engaged. Also if you guys agree it's my clutch how easy are the and what brand and from where? It seems like south bend is the way to go. I pull a 20k+ trailer so need a good clutch. Thanks for reading the long story.

sounds like the fork to me. ive pulled one out that was broke and it did the same thing as yours.. but if you got to pull the tranny to change the fork just as well change the clutch too.. as far as the brand of clutch i have no idea.

sounds like hydraulic problems to me . master and slave cyl. these trucks have had issues with them . up dated unit full and pre bled is ford # 2c3z-7c522-ca:D

Is there a way to tell for sure it's the fork? I already put a pre bled kit in it a while back so that shouldn't be it I will have to look at it more.

If your fork is bent it would not last long before it will break and you want be able to change gears very easy. Heres a pic of a bent/broke fork.

On my '02 the fork was not bent, even tho it had the same symptoms as yours. On mine, the problem was the rivets on the clutch plate had failed, so that whenever you pressed the clutch pedal, the pressure plate fingers would run into the now much wider clutch plate and stay locked up. Mine had the improved fork and it was not not bent at all.

I pulled my slave cylinder and it measured 2.5 inches. Would you consider this bent or not?

2.5" means it's not bent.

Ok thanks hard to tell in the one pic as it looks to be 2 1/4", guess I'll be putting in a southbend

Having same issues now, guys. Went ahead and ordered up a clutch assy, new fork and m/s cylinder set. Wondering, does the tranny need dropped, to remove/install the fork?

I was wondering the same and read 4 threads, including this one, but couldn't find an answer. I found one thread with a pic showing a measurement from face of slave mount to healthy fork. I believe it was less than 2.5". I guess opting for the manual in Ford doesn't always mean you're in the clear.
