Mileage on Tires

Hey folks.

How many miles have you all been getting on the factory Pirelli Scorpion tires? Mine are coming up to 15,000 and it is looking like I might need to start planning to replace them before 30,000. I am used to off-road tires on big trucks or small car tires.. so I do not know what I should expect for these.

Thanks.

I got 35k...they are crap. Get better tires and you will be surprised how much better the truck drives and handles.

I can't say about those tires, but the stock Crapenintels I got 44K but they were feathered, cupped, etc and made a loud wah wah noise on the freeway-it wasn't from lack of rotation or alignment either. Aligmnet was dead on and rotations every 5K miles.

I think 40-50K on tires is reasonable.

Just had my 25K service today. Dealer says tires will need replacing soon, 5/32, on the factory Scorpions. Also said back brakes are down to 4 mm and will need replaced soon. Fronts at 7mm, kind of odd.

Thanks.. Yes rear should not be lower then front. Unless you do what happens on my and leave the e-brake on for a bit when starting out. I have not check my brakes yet but I am sure that has worn them down a bit.

I just bought an 08, had 45k on it, and I replaced the tires. They were not taken care of/rotated.

I bought Nexen tires, I have them on my explorer too.

They have pretty good reviews, I know a few other people that have them and no complaints. One of my friends has a Turbo Buick and races with Nexen tires too.

I got about 35,000 then replaced with BF Goodrich that are supposed to last 65,000 miles. I now have about 20,000 on the BFGs and I don't see how they are going to last another 45,000 miles. Also had to replace the rear brakes at about 45,000. I was surprised since usually the fronts wear faster than the rears. Front brakes are fine.

berry1234 08-01-2011 10:24 AM

Yeah, the rears go faster on these, which is opposite of the norm.

I also have BF Goodrich Long Trails. I won't be buying these again. I have 40K and 2 of the tires are almost down to the wear indicators and have the center tread almost bald while the others are fine. Perfect air PSI, alignment and rotation-so I know it's the tire. I also can't keep them balanced. Have to have it done about every 10K. Had one replaced becuase it had 35lbs of force when road forced.

21k on the OEM Pirelli

Maybe 10-15k left on them though. Looking pretty worn. Going to run some LT tires next time so I can get better longevity and a more stable ride

I replaced my Scorpion's at about 45K miles and they were completely worn (obviously). I replaced them with Nitto tires and it was like a new truck. Drives/steers great now. Never liked it before but blamed it on the big SUV since I'd always had cars before.

Can you post the exact size and model of Nitto tires? Thanks.

Nitto Dura Grappler Hiway Terrain 255/70/18

We do a lot of driving on gravel which really chews up tires. Although we have a lot of snow, we've found the exp to be heavy enough that traction is not our main concern, especially with traction control and 4wd if need be. When looking for new tires I told the tire shop I do business with, I wanted the longest-lasting tire he had for the driving we do. Traction was of little concern. These are what he sold us. They have about 30k miles on them now and appear to be wearing decently.

Hope this helps.

Nice, thanks.

I replaced the original Scorpions on my 08 Expedition just before 40,000 miles. I thought they had a little left on them and would have pushed them to maybe 45,000, but the wife started complaining that I wasn't taking care of the things that needed to be done when they were supposed to be, so I put them on to shut her up. I also had to replace the rear brake pads like others have been saying at about 30,000. I too thought that it was strange the rears were shot and the fronts were still fine.

Tylus 08-18-2011 01:54 AM

was out cleaning the rims last night and tonight, and noticed that my tires are dry rotted

was hoping to have them last until Oct/Nov. Now I'm scared of them. Dangit
