87 F-150 that stalls when put in gear

without tearing motor completely apart does anyone have a clue on this?

flywheel has teeth missing in only 1 spot.
I have taken tranny off and replaced.
but while tranny is off checked rotation and can only turn motor 3/4 of the way around and it freezes up-turn the other way and same thing. I get to that certain point and can't turn the motor
any further.
motor was running fine (no knocks or pings) thought it was touque converter at first but know it's not now.

any suggestions?

motor is FI 302.:-X01

Sounds to me like you either sucked a valve or broke a rod if the engine will not turn a full revolution.

The title of your post was something about engine stalling when put in gear but then you say it ran fine before.

I guess I must be having a brain fart.

I have to agree With Bill If you can rotate the engine by hand albit partial rotation I think you have a definate obstruction to rotation.....3/4 turn sure sounds like about 270 degrees of rotation...SOmething ugly is blocking the other 90 degrees.Good luck.
