replacing auto hubs

I got a 1994 ford f150 with auto locking hubs and the push buttom 4x4 on the dash i was wanting to replace them with manual hubs. I heard from some people you don't need a kit to do this but the local mechanis says he has done them before and you need one has anyone done this before. Any info would be appreciated.

I replaced mine back in 99 I think, and if I remember correctly I just bought Warn replacement hubs and everything was included. It isn't too difficult, just watch for the big spring when you remove the hub, it can send it flying right at you if you are not careful. My auto hubs would start sounding like someone spinning a ratchet while doing down the road. Took it in under warranty and they could never fix it or make it fail while they had it. Once the warranty was out I just replace them with manuals, been working fine ever since.

you need the locking style nuts yes.if you don't use them, your wheel bearings will loosen up eventually and ruin your new hubs........worse if you don't catch it in time!
make sure you get the correct locking parts w/manual hubs or she'll come undone on you.
pretty much the best mod you can do to is ditching them auto locking cheap things with a good set of manual lockers.you'll never look back and never give a care that you need to get out and turn hubs manually, because they just plain work.:-X22
