Just purchased 2011 King Ranch EL Expedition

Hey guys, we just traded in our 2003 EB Excursion 7.3l 4x4 for a brand new 2011 King Ranch EL Expedition 4x4.

I have a few questions:

1.) I'd like to upgrade the headlights to HID. I know that the factory bulb is an H13, but I can't find any information on whether it is a dual filament or not. I don't see a separate bulb in the housing for a high beam. Which kit do I need?

2.) I live off of a dirt road that sometimes requires the use of 4 wheel drive and I'm interested in lifting the truck and going with either 33" or 35" Goodyear Wrangler Kevler MT/R tires. Is there a lift kit out there that won't void my factory warranty?

3.) Will larger tires function with the tire pressure monitoring system?

Hi BiggSean - congrats on the new truck!

Question #1 - I didn't know the 2011 Expys had HID headlights! Wow - do I need to go hunting for part numbers to replace my conventional headlights?!

Question #2 - if your King has air suspension it's my understanding you can't "lift" it. There were a few posts a month or so ago where some of the guys were discussing this topic and chatting about which kit was best. Do a search on it.. Don't know about the warranty issue - doesn't Ford typically use any excuse not to honor a warranty claim....

Question #3 - Tire size won't matter. TPSs are only looking for tire pressure. 35 PSI in a 33" or 35" is the same.

Hope I helped a little. Enjoy that new truck!

B/R,
Randy

There is no factory option for HIDs. I was going to install an aftermarket kit on it, which is why I was curious about the bulb type.

I didn't opt for the air suspension on this truck as I won't be doing any heavy towing with it. My Cummins Dodge will handle that.

Any updates on a lift for this truck?

I don't think I've ever seen one of the new body style Expys lifted. If you road gets that messy I can recommend a tire. I put these on my wife's '07 and we love them. Huge traction increase over the factory all season radials in every way.

Has to be said, do not go with the HID conversion kit for your Expedition more for the sake of other drivers on the road. The reflectors are not designed for HID type lighting and will end up scattering light mainly into oncoming traffic. The best non-HID bulb on the market for H13 lighting is Phillips Extreme Power. Considering giving these a go before going the HID route. Another option if you really have to go HID is to either retrofit yourself or send your headlamps to a company that can retrofit HID projectors in the headlamps. Quite a few companies do this now as upgrading to HIDs is a popular route most people want to go. This way you can get your upgraded lighting without blinding oncoming traffic. Congrats on your purchase ... fun trucks indeed!

If you don't have the rear air suspension you do have lifting options of 2-3in

I know it's been a few months, but wanted to point out something for the tires

I'm running 33" tires on my bone stock 4x2 right now. Your 4x4 sits 1" taller...so you'd have even more room to stuff them

regarding the HID's, I think you should do it! I have begun seeing "adjustable" HID kits, I dont have any experience with them but I had halogens in my previous truck and now have Bi-Xenon on the Navi nd it literally looks like times square at night, not to mention the high beams!
here's a link to a quick search result of adjustable HID's
