1997 f150 fuel pump problem
We are having a problem with our 1997 F150. We replaced the fuel pump, but it still turns over but won't fire. When we turn over the engine, a little bit of fues comes out at the filter, but not much. There is spark, so it can't be the electrical system, and was wondering what we could check to see what else could be wrong. (I'm the computer friendly wife and not the repairer, so please be patient!!)

When going from key off to key on, the fuel pump is supposed to run to 1 to 2 seconds. Listen for the whirring sound during this time to see if the pump's motor is running. If it is, then either the pump is faulty or there is a clog or restriction in the pickup or the fuel line.
If the pump's motor never runs, then it's likely there wasn't anything wrong with the original pump and it's likely that the pump simply is not getting power when it's supposed to run. Check the inertia switch (see owner's manual) first to see if it has tripped. |
