Replacing head gaskets - manuals or info
 

I'm going to replace my drivers side head gasket... I have a haynes manual... is that sufficent or do I need a ford service manual?

It sucks, but I have to get my head gaskets (I will change them both) done too.

I think a lot of guys are having head gasket issues lately. Maybe it's the ethanol fuel, maybe they degraded with time, but it seems awfully strange that so many of us need them when the guys who ran the trucks when they were newer could go 300k + miles on them.

Yea no kidding man. But actually I don't have a head gasket problem, I just put that in the description... actually I blew a plug and need to get the head machined (after the helicoil didn't work). But either way, I'm pulling off the drivers side head so I gonna replace the head gasket anyway.

Yea it is going to suck.

Are you going to follow any manuals? My local ford dealer is pretty good to me so they may even print me off the FSM for the work so I can go step by step.

I don't like the Haynes for this level of work. If your buddies at Ford will print you a copy, I'd go with that.

Yeah, go with the Ford manual if at all possible.

I may get a copy from somewhere.

I have an account with alldatadiy.com for 2 vehicles.Its cheap,and all pages printable.You might wanna check into this.Haynes,and Chiltons Manuals are too generic,and personally I think a waste of money......:-drink

i recommended u change both. the whole entire upper half of the engine has to come off i recently did mine. so u might as well. i was able to use my chilton book with common engine knowledge to get mine apart

I'm starting on this tonight... I'm taking tons of pics and writing up some notes.
