92 F250 emergency brake system
Greetings and thanks for any help.
92 F250 emergency brake system - previous owner cut all out past emergency brake pedal. Anyone have photos or website of what should be there from pedal back to where brake actually holds. I cant seem to figure out and no junk yards in my area have one. - thanks for any help. |
A quick look-see in my Haynes shows the brake assembly in detail on the axle, and also some adjustment procedures. I haven't found anything YET on the pedal inside but that should be a bolt on from almost any Ford truck of the same generation.
Question is...why did the p.o. tear it all out unless is was rusted up to the point of falling apart. But he/she should have replaced it. In most states vehicle inspections include properly functioning parking brakes. |
Thanks for trying to help - must have a different haynes than you as I only see the parking brake adjustment. Nothing showing axle or where cables run. Want to be sure I get this right - reason previous owner removed is because he was an idiot. Got truck for real low $ - guess I'm an idiot too but still need to fix it.

Chapter nine, if we have the same book, is the braking system. Starting at 9-1 through 9-7 goes through the rear brake assembly which includes the parking brake linkage. So that will help you make sure that is right. Next, find a pedal at a junkyard or pull-a-part and it should bolt right on. For the cables, buy new ones. Old ones will probably be froze and corroded. The best way to get the cables run correctly would be to compare your truck to another truck of the same generation if you know someone that has one. If you need pics, I have a 95 F-250 so tell me exactly where you need to see and I'll go snap some pics and post them. That would be the next best solution for you I think. Whatever I can do to help you out let me know. |
Again, thanks for help. Would statement "whatever I an do to help" include trading trucks? Looked twice and only see the adjustment bracket. I believe All foot pedal parts are there and it looks like everything is missing under the truck. Any photos that show cables from front to back under the truck and upto and into the rear brakes would be great. I cant even really tell for sure where it goes into brakes - think I know but dont want to "think" when it comes to brakes. I especially dont understand how cables go to both rear brakes - again thanks.

OK that didn't take long at all so here we go.... From the pedal in the cab, the cable goes straight down through the floor directly beneath the pedal. With my injuries I wasn't able to get a picture of how it attaches to the pedal but when you get into it you will see how it goes. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ough_floor.jpg The cable comes straight out the bottom of the cab and curves in towards the frame to the driver side front cab mount. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/undercab.jpg The cable goes through the mount and will attach solid to the mount because the outer shielding stops at this point. Bare cable comes out the other side of the cab mount. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3..._cab_mount.jpg The front cable as I call it, and the rear cable connect here with this small connector. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...connection.jpg From the connector, the cable runs along the frame rail to this point, where it is split. It will be shielded cable after this point. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ble_splits.jpg Now you have two shielded cables that attach to the frame with a bracket and bolt. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ame_attach.jpg One goes to the drivers side, and through the backing plate. Refer to Haynes Manual, Chapter 9 after this point. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s_assembly.jpg The other cable goes over and attaches to the top of the rearend housing. Sorry I couldn't get a closer shot again, my mobility is limited. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...le_rearend.jpg And finally, cable goes into the passenger side backing plate and from there refer again to Haynes Manual. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s_assembly.jpg Now, it is possible that the factory setup on your truck may be slightly different, I'm not sure but it should be the same or very similar. If not, scalp your parts from a 95 or similar and it will work just fine. The brackets you can get used if they are missing and if your pedal is broken or damaged you can find a used one but I highly suggest new cables. Hope this helps you, and let me know if you need another angle. |
Thanks an awful lot - this will really help. For now I'm going to assume previous owner was too lazy to pull hubs, etc and just cut where it went in - again, thanks

NEW QUESTIONS - SAME AS 150? Have extend cab which cable diff
ok, now that I have all photos - just realized?!? I have extended cab 250 with 8 ft bed. For junk yard purposes anyone know if F150 emergency/parking brake from front to back will work?? Which cable if any must be longer for the extended cab versus regular cab - as always thanks for any help.

Again, your very welcome. I'm glad I could help you out :D |
You'll need the intermediate cable from an extended cab just like your truck.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...connection.jpgThat's the one that runs from the connector to the equalizer. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ble_splits.jpg That cable is different between the different truck bodies. I grabbed one from a regular cab and one from an extended cab, both with 8 ft beds, from my last trip to the PNP. As you can guess, the one with the extended cab was longer, though not by much. I'm actually in the process of rebuilding the parking brake system on my truck. Both of my rear cables are stuck beyond any repair. I've actually found a set of new cables on ebay for just a couple of bucks more than what a couple of used ones would have cost at the local PNP |

I'd like to go OEM but considering my current financial situation (i.e. no job) I'm lucky my wife lets me fix it at all.

Thanks
Thanks, Kevin for posting these pics. Very helpful. I'm installing new parking brake lines in my 95 f-250 longbed and had nothing to go by. Previous owner cut them all off.

I realize this is an ancient thread, but I have a 92 f250 (superduty? Not sure) reg cab long bed, and the e brake does not have that linkage on the front cable, it's a solid cable all the way back to where it splits. Everything else is the same. The problem is, the drivers side doesn't release correctly, the passenger side works fine though. I wanted to see if I could adjust it but I guess not. I was thinking maybe a new drivers side cable, but it looks new. I put new rear breaks and springs on it already. Any ideas?
