Fuel leak in 2001.
 

When approaching my truck to leave my job today, i noticed a large stain on the pavement. I started the truck, looked underneath and fuel was gushing out like it was being poured out of a bucket. I moved to dry pavement, cut it off and crawled under it. Fuel was dripping from the back of the engine, mainly from the area around the starter and away from the fuel lines. I did not see a specific source so i started it again, this time only drips. I drove home, pulling over to check it a couple of times.
At home, it is wet in the valley but not gushing while running. It is damp all around the fuel bowl but not on the hood blanket.

I am thinking O rings for the back of the bowl.

What do you guys think caused the gush of fuel? What other parts should i suspect?

from reading other threads, another possibility is the fuel rail that runs along the pass. side head. It rubs against its own hold-down clamp, causing a hole.

Definitely sounds like the return line.

What kind of filter do you have in the bowl? I had trouble a couple times with the filter that comes with the cap on it. Check the cap to make sure it is not leaking. I also had a gusher when it leaked one time.

The only time that happened to me the hood blanket got soaked. This time it is dry and the top of the engine is dry except for around the bowl and the valley.

Guys i will recheck the rail area.

I've got the exact same thing going on right now. Didn't have very good light so it's hard to say for sure, but when the truck is idling it looks like I've got a slow drip from the back side of the fuel bowl.

The passenger side fuel rail will not quit leaking if chafed. My guess is you either had something in the FPR that raised the fuel pressure and caused leakage out of the cap or one of the Viton seals for the fuel lines. Most likely explanation since you shut it down, and it stopped, even after restarting?

I let the truck idle and finally noticed it leaking at the back side of the filter cap seal. I have trash in the valley so i cannot see the fuel flowing.
I lowered the fuel pressure to around 60 psi and installed a new filter. I do not detect a further leak when putting my fingers around the cap. I will drive it and see what happens.
