P0713 TFT Sensor Failure/Replacement
 

Heres my attempt to give back to FTE. Didn't see anything in the tech folder about this. There were some quick posts about it but nothing with shiny pictures.

1. Purchase a new TFT sensor($14.49) and 8-10 Quarts of Mercron LV or SP ($4.49 per quart) at your local Ford Dealership.
2. Drain your old transmisson fluid.
3. Remove your Tranny pan by loosening 20x10MM that are around the edges.
4. Lower the pan and be careful with the gasket it is re-useable.
5. On the passengers side of the valve body in the front you should see the TFT sensor between 2 Solinoids. (See Photo)
6. Disconnect the 2 wire harness and with a pair of needle nose pliers rotate the TFT sensor clockwise with pulling down slightly. FYI Get out of the way or your going to drink some fluid.
7. Install the new sensor by inserting it in the same hole and rotateing counter clockwise. Reconnect 2 wire harness make sure its on the right side where the harness lock is.
8. Clean up the Tranny pan and re-install bolts. Torque bolts to 11Ft lbs.
9. Fill tranny up with Mercron LV or SP. Took me 9 Quarts which is what came out.
10. Check for leaks around the pan and enjoy not having your Trans guage spike.

You are fortunate price wise by having your TFT sensor fail recently. A few years ago they were selling for $78 list and around $40 jobber price, since it was a rarity that they were failing. Now as the 2003 and 2004 are aging and the TFT sensors are failing frequently, the price has come down on this $5 part.

I want to THANK everyone here in this post. I am no mechanic, at all, and today I saved myself $470 dollars by finding this post..... I DID IT, thanks to ya'll. looking forward to the next code and more advice from this site.....besides drinking a few quarts of tranny fluid, haha, the picture made it perfectly easy. I am in the military and I done it at the auto hobby shop, the mech on duty said I needed to torque the pan bolts to 18 ft lbs, but Unreal04 proved him wrong, he stands corrected. This 2006 F350 King Ranch will be on the road for another 140,000 miles,

Thanks for the great tech post! Mine failed Thursday on the way home from work. Tow/Haul light started flashing and check engine light came on. Checked the codes when I got home and had P0713 and P0107. I called the stealer and they made an appointment for me next week. I asked if it was a quick repair (should I wait or drop the truck off for the day)? They told me it would probably take half a day. That's when I started searching this forum. Today I went to the dealer and bought the new sensor for $14.64 and 9 quarts of transmission fluid at $7.82/quart (ouch!). I'm not a mechanic, but it only took me 30 minutes to do the repair myself. The tow/haul light stopped flashing, but check engine light was still on for the P0107 code. I doubt that was real, so I cleared it and will continue to monitor to see if it comes back. So far, all is good. Thanks for saving me $200-$300!

thank you unreal 04 for your great post very well done but i am just sooo disappointed that someone would still be posting stealer when so much of our expert info comes from our hard working dedicated techs who slave away in dealers shops what a slap in the face!! tothese dedicated people who religiously monitor our forum and rescue so many of us thank you each and every one who continue to give of your expertise

While I agree the techs that come here to help us all out are awesome. I am not a fan of dealerships either. I would prefer to pay the techs directly if possible. Also the parts department is what gets to me. But I respect the techs here enough to keep my posts free of. Cheezit has been spot on every time.

Sorry -- I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers with my "stealer" comment. I don't doubt that the techs there and at other dealerships are doing good work, and that had I taken my truck in that it would have been fixed perfectly. It just drives me nuts that such a simple job has to take several hours and cost so much in labor when it really isn't justified. It makes me not trust what I'm being told, and in some cases I suck it up because I know I don't have the skills or the tools to do the job myself. In this case, I needed no special skills or tools and would have ended up paying $180-$270 in labor for a 30 minute job.

Great info on this site.I have determined that from reading the previous threads that my 03 ex 6.0 with 200000 miles needs a new TFT sensor.Any one have a ford p/n ............Thanks

The original part number on mine was 3C3P-7H141-AA. The replacement part the dealer sold me is BC3Z-7H141-A. I don't know why the difference in the number, but the new part is working perfectly.
