Yes, when the EGT's are high regardless of regen you should let the engine cool down. The turbos generate allot of heat and when your really pushing the engine due to driving it hard or heavy towing these temperatures climb. By letting it idle of a period of time, it gives the turbos a chance to cool down and pump cooler coolant, oil/water depending on the cooling method, through the turbo.

I do the same as senix. When you put it in park, you basically turned off the regen function. This stops the truck from pumping excess fuel into the cylinders needed for the regen. By letting it cool down for a few minutes, your giving the truck plenty of time to burn off the excess fuel so it doesn't get left behind in the cylinders resulting in the fuel washing the cylinders and ending up in the oil pan when the engine cools down.

anyone that has the new flash have a friend with a Spartan dashdaq that can connect and get the engine and tranny 'strategy' codes. Then Spartan can support their mods on this flash level.

Did anyone confirm that the "cleaning exhaust" messagge stays on during the regen?
I really miss that message...:)

senix 03-17-2011 12:34 PM

nope will not stay on with the lastest flash.

Ditto, doesn't stay on, heard the same thing from various other users.

Drove about 300 mi. with the new flash today. Went down the hill to get my boat, so 1/2 was towing it (140 miles or so up hill 100ft to 4300ft elevation) from Redding over Eskimo Summit then down towards Reno. Had one regen as usual for 22 minutes, message came on for about 3 seconds. Don't need the message anyway, I have an Insight that lets me know. Can tell when it is through when th EGT's come down anyway. No drivability problems, loss of power, smoke, gremlins in the turbo ect.
The only difference from before the new flash is the loss of the message...big deal, especially if the new flash saves my engine some day.

I don't know for sure yet but the LOM had me at 14 mpg. I usually get 12 pulling that hill with the boat. Will see when I take out a loan to fill it up and hand calc. Wishful thinking probably.

i believe in the past when the pcm was reset or reprogramed it initially showed a little bump in mpg which eventually went back to where it was prior?

Anything other then what's talked about so far shown on that sheet? If so, can ya scan and post?

senix 03-19-2011 06:03 AM

I am not going to get this flash unless it becomes a recall. I can monitor everything and I want to keep my cleaning exhaust message.

So unless there is some real compeling reason.

I'm not a paid member so I can't post it. But it says that the pcm update will put the truck into limp mode or reduced power if the following are found. Water in fuel, turbo overboost, oil cooler efficiency detection, overfilled crankcase, eng coolant temp, and the wrench will show. And that the trans could be in re-learn mode for upto 7 days customer satisfaction program 11B23

I had mine done the other day, and the only thing I noticed that was different was the LOM showing my fuel millage being better.

Got my letter today, no I have to decide whether or not to have the reflash. I'm struggling with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". But I think a reflash is inevitable at some point, so maybe I should just get it over with.

judithgap 03-19-2011 05:49 PM

Received mine today. Guess I will have it done at my next service.
