flare side GT anyone?

i beg everyones indulgence, i'm trying to find info on my new f150 i got today. it's a 1992 f150 flare side Gt 4x4 5spd 4.9 6cyl. its really clean for living in wisconsin, but in need of a little tlc. the ignition switch tumbler is giving me fits. the po ripped it out incorrectly and i believe it is out of alignment. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. it is white with special graphics and a completely carpeted bed and fiberglass bed cover and a spoiler that appears to be original.

I would do some research but I would be willing to bet it's not a factory "GT" truck.
1. usually GT or performance trucks are 2wd, some are 4wd but not often.
2. putting a v6 in a GT unless its turbo or supercharged, especially in a truck is odd.
They definitely did some custom work to it and the truck sounds like it is pretty nice, but research the GT thing.
maybe a ranger GT had a v6 but doubt an F150 would.

The 4.9 was a straight 6. Still would check out the GT thing though... Never heard of it myself.

You're right. The F-150 wouldn't have a V6. It's an inline six, as bigbroncoguy said.

There was never any "GT" F-150's....Just Lightnings, Nites an Eddie Bauer's......

And think about it, a GT is a symbol of speed, and agility.....2 things a F-150 is not known for, ECSPECIALLY with a Inline 6.....Well, maybe from 0-25mph......MAYBE.....

503racing 05-09-2011 08:43 PM

lol just noticed i did call an inline a v6.....whoops

6CylBill 05-09-2011 10:28 PM

Well, Ford claims to have sold V6 engines in F-150's, but I've yet to see one. I guess it's a 3.9L? I don't remember. I think it's in the same family as the 4.2L V6.

SideWinder4.9l 05-10-2011 06:25 PM

It was the 3.8l, IIRC....

DIYiT 05-10-2011 06:35 PM

Ford Essex V6 engine (Canadian) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lists the 3.8 as being used in '82 & '83 in the F150

One year? That explans the rarity. My owner's manual (or was it the Haynes repair book?) mentions the 3.8L, as if it would go into my year truck? That always confused me. Maybe just a simple mistake.

If you read close Bill, the manuals call themselves "References".....;)

never trust a Haynes manual...they are only really good for starting fires. Oh, and to the OP, could you please post some pics of this "GT"? I've never heard of one existing and Just wanna see yours

That 3.8 was a turd, have a uncle that used to have a old mercury wagon and a friend with a old windstar with that 3.8 both blown head gaskets around 30K
