75 super camper special rear gas tank???

I have a 75 super camper special with a rear poly tank, It leaks and I have repaired it several time and now it's time for it to go. I can not fine a tank that would fit any where. I would like to find a metal tank.

You probably won't find a new one because your truck has the narrower frame. What I would do is take some measurements of your opening and look at websites like gastanks.com and see if you can find a tank that's narrow enough to fit your opening. I know on the highboys (narrow frame) people have used Bronco II tanks. And the other option would be to get a new tank for an F series truck and see if a welding shop could cut out a section and then reweld it making it narrower, but you'll probably end up spending much more than just trying to make a tank work.

all the steel tanks ive found (lmc, denis carpenter, bronco graveyard etc.) are too wide for our trucks narrower frasme rails. the bronco tanks are narrower, but not sure of fitment issues. maybe call bronco graveyard to see if their tank fits or someone here might know. the bronc tank looks like it would fit but i cant say for sure as i havent tried one. sorry couldnt be more help

I don't think any of JBGs tanks fit the narrow frame. You can use the 23gal bronco II tank. I'm looking for a new rear tank myself, and this seems to be about the only answer besides getting some custom tank from aerotanks or the like for big $$.

There were two different plastic fuel tanks originally. If the truck was sold new in CA .. it has Evaporative Emission.

Note: Ford dropped "Super" from the name after 1976.

D3TZ-9002-V .. Aft Axle Fuel Tank-Plastic-20 gallons / Obsolete

1973/76 F350 Super Camper Special & 1977 F350 Regular Cab Camper Special without Evaporative Emission.

1973/76 F350 Super Camper Special & 1977 F350 Regular Cab Camper Special with Evaporative Emission.

:( No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one.

thanks for info

Thanks for the info, so I guess the plastic tank that is all cracked and leaking is the factory tank, So then what do we do to replace it?

AerostarDad 08-15-2012 10:48 PM

Maybe install a mid-ship tank and don't use the aft tank at all?

look for a rear tank from an f-superduty, I think they started in 88, and went up till 97, they have the same rear tank size as the super camper special. Also share the same skid plate. You can also use a rear tank from a f-350 cab and chassis dually up to 97, they share the narrow frame with the crewcabs, highboys, and f-350 camper/super camper specials. The f-350's also have the crossember that will bolt into the older trucks to add this tank, and the same skidplate as the f-superduty. the f-superduty crossmember is to wide to use. The filler neck is a little different, and I look for the earlier tanks with the idi diesels as they don't have a pump in the tank.

These poly tanks bolt right in and fit with no mods, mabye drill a few holes in the frame for the crossmember if you did'nt have a rear tank in your tuck. My buddy has this tank in his 78 f-350 he is restoring, and I put one in my 75 f-250 4x4 i'm restoring.
