dealer installing new manifolds

The local dealer is doing my 2004 SD 5.4L, new manifolds, TSB stainless steel studs and nuts. Around $850.00, if studs need drilled & tapped, no more then $1000.00. I have read on here of this job costing 1300-1500, thinking I got a good deal and had called around, most dealers pretty close to this price. Choose this one, its closer to the houseand know them pretty well.

You should of had them put some headers on while you were at it. It probably wouldn't of costed you much more, if any. Good luck.

I priced them at the dealer, $750.00-$300.00 to $600.00 labor to install depending on how many broken studs and looked at Gibsons for $574.00. Just not sure how loud it would be, decided to go with original manifolds.

gibson headers SUCK! i have them on my 04 f-350 and they are straight garbage. they must use the cheapest stainless because they look worse than the factory manifold that had 60k when i took them off. my cousin has them new edlebrock ti tech coated ones i think and they look brand new after two years, no pitting or rust. mine look like they came off the titanic.

i had mine done at a guys shop who specializes in ford. cost me 800$ cash and largely due to the fact that he uses ford gaskets and studs and nuts. the gasket prices are through the roof because they know everyone has to replace them, since the originals were crap. I thought of doing headers also and he swore to me that the stock headers were the best to stay with. That aftermarket headers lost back pressure and trucks he had done lost towing power. NOt totally sure how true it is but dont think he would make it up.

Why did they need to be replaced?

piedpipper5 02-05-2011 03:12 PM

My studs had to be replaced because they break and or rot and the manifolds start leaking exhaust. you usually can hear it when it gets bad enough. You may not be able to see it because the studs and nuts are still there but the can be snapped. if you look you may even notice some of the stud ends and nuts are missing. Ford used crap studs and bolts and it happens to pretty much every 150 250 and 350 in the early 2000s up to atleast the 05's ive heard. wont issue a recall either.
