I think i have a sickness though, i so much look forward to towing with the 6.2L just as much as playing in the lake and camping out.. maybe i should change professions and haul freight. :-X04

How many of you used to have the V10 and can compare the new 6.2s performance to the V10? I currently have a 2000 F250 reg cab 4x4 with the V10 that i use for pulling a 79 F150 around to mud races and it pulls excellently! i pull with overdrive shut off and i swear up n down that it gets 10 mpg pulling about 8-8500 lbs of weight. A friend says it even pulls better than his dodge cummins. All that was last summer with its origanal rusted exhaust factory spark plugs and coil packs, which ive since replaced including dual exhaust (sort of). But now im thinkin of trading in the V10 for a 6.2 powered F350, since i cant find a low miled used V10. Caaan any1 give me their thoughts on goin from the V10 to the 6.2?

I can now give you my thoughts. Whether the 6.2 can out pull the 6.8-- I don't know. The 6.2 will get you to the same place at the same time with better fuel economy and much more comfort( my opinion so far). The only thing I haul is cattle- so my towing experience may not be applicable to your needs.
Byram- nice trailer. We got the check for the cattle we sold Monday. Next week a bull goes to town as long as we can get him in the tub.

Here is our new beast, scaled at 19,385 combined weight. To my relief it pulls just fine with the 4.30's.

Nice lookin' rigs Mike & Super...

5 Star Tuning 06-21-2011 12:14 PM

 The Eagle has landed.. Nice rig.. thanks for sharing Super08

I just rolled over 10k miles finally on the truck (never been back to dealer, not yet anyways) ... and noticed that the tread depth on the rear tires is 7/32 " and the front is 12/32 " I guess with all the towing with the rig its time to rotate them :)

Thanks guys. Yes towing heavy will require tire rotations to be kept up. It really accelerates the wear on the rears.

Yea, I think towing heavy killed a couple of my Goodrich mud terrains.. Right after I got them - (they were still soft) I ran a heavy load (Skid Steer/Tools) out IH 10 in August heat about 1K round trip - About 14K later I noticed the tires were cracking around the sides (looked like dry rot but it wasn't)

Discount Tire replaced two - they couldn't figure it out either... Also with that same load I dragged that trailer through some desert mountains in 4x4 low with the e-locker on so there wasn't much to give except the tires -That could have caused it... I ran the Mud Terrains (1st & 2nd generation) on my 01 for it's whole life & this was the first issue like this on them...

I must say you guys have some nice 5ver's! I have to ask if you guys are happy with the tow haul mode? Here in northern Pa their are alot of steep hills that you go up and down towing and coming down them in tow haul mode seems a bit odd when you apply the brake and the thing shifts down again and again seems by the time I am at the bottom of the hill the motor is doing 4 grand and takes awhile to shift back up again. Also do you guys use 6th gear on the highway? Coming from a 2000 dodge 2500 to this new ford their alot of new stuff that I never had before. LOL

Super08 06-21-2011 09:17 PM

I used 6th gear for about half of my trip yesterday after the winds settled down. When it was stronger it kept kicking down to 5th so I locked it out of 6th.

5 Star Tuning 06-22-2011 07:38 AM

Its normal for it to rev on the downshifts coming down the hill. I like the tow/haul mode a lot better after its been remapped (tuned) on the 6.2L. For heavy towing there is a better strategy and thats how we have the tow/haul mode set up. We also have the 4.30 gear set and I always pull in 6th gear and when it needs to downshift i let it do its thing.

We are out on our first camping trip with the new trailer. With our stuff inside, food, and a full tank of water it scaled in at 20,500 lb. Pulls just fine as I found, we have 6% or better climb on the way out of town. The speed limit there is 45 mph and we climbed it at 50 without effort. Not even close to being to the floor.

I tow my 28ft camper it weights about 8000lbs loaded and my 26ft boat that weights about 7500 with the trailer the truck pulls them both effortlessly.I average around 10-11 mpg towing.
