Iggy: On your long trip did you use the cruise control at all? If so, could you give some feedback? I'm still waiting to get my camper out of storage (it freakin' snowed AGAIN in Minnesota today).

Boomsling: Great rig set up. Looks like we share similiar taste in truck colors. I have a 36' Jayco Travel Trailer I'll be hooking up to. I've said this before...if I can figure out how to post a picture I'll do it....Safe travels all.

Here is one of my trailers. 10,000 enclosed car hauler. I use it for hauling side-side, 4-wheelers and snowmachines but mostly for construction tools.

My travel trailer is still stuck up north at the storage lot - snowed in.

Yes I did use my cruise control on most of the flat areas. Switched it off climbing and going down hills as I felt more in control.

Also if you feel the truck is swaying right to left like cross winds.. Try turning off the the trailer sway control. Not sure why it feel weird but when off it is much better. I think it may be too sensitive. Just one way of thinking.

Are you using a WDH too? If so, could it be that the 2 are fighting each other?

Nope it is a 5th wheel hitch. I don't use the ball trailer bumper hitch.
It is a standard 5th wheel hitch that has some movement tilting forwatd and back as well as side ways. Nothing special.

How many of you used to have the V10 and can compare the new 6.2s performance to the V10? I currently have a 2000 F250 reg cab 4x4 with the V10 that i use for pulling a 79 F150 around to mud races and it pulls excellently! i pull with overdrive shut off and i swear up n down that it gets 10 mpg pulling about 8-8500 lbs of weight. A friend says it even pulls better than his dodge cummins. All that was last summer with its origanal rusted exhaust factory spark plugs and coil packs, which ive since replaced including dual exhaust (sort of). But now im thinkin of trading in the V10 for a 6.2 powered F350, since i cant find a low miled used V10. Caaan any1 give me their thoughts on goin from the V10 to the 6.2?

I haven't pulled the exact same weight between my (sold) 2000 V10 and my new truck but I'm confident the 6.2 and the 6 speed will outperform the 6.8 4 speed.

More thoughts in this thread (don't let the title fool you, some 6.8 comments in there as well):

thanks silverbullet! im not sure which configuration im goin to get yet but i think ill go with 4.30s but me bein ive got to have my MSOF.Too bad none of the dealerships around here have a 6.2 super duty to test drive!

I hauled a ford 555 backhoe with my super cab lwb 4.30 4x4. Great acceleration and plenty ow power. I currently have 5500 miles on the truck. I cannot compare to a v10 but I have towed up to 19000 lbs and am very pleased with the results. My boat seems to suck the most fuel out of the truck because of the high wind drag.

If you are ordering a truck, make sure to get the locker. I have found that it is very handy on slippery launches. If you plan on doing much towing over 10,000 lbs I would recommend the 4.30'rear end. Especially if you will be in any kind of hills or mountainous terrain.

I just got back from a 750 mile trip Saturday and hand calculated 14.5 running 75. Hope this helps.

Super08 06-13-2011 07:56 PM

Nice picture. That trailer looks to be a streamlined as a brick. Must be heavy pulling even empty.

Byram 06-13-2011 08:04 PM

Got right at 20K now... I haven't seen you posting much Mike - figured that you had been RV'ing..

It's a friends trailer - seems like it weighed 5700# empty & We had 12 heifers weighing average of 600# so about 13K - no pulling problems except pulling thru the big city where idiots give you no leeway...
