I went old school this past weekend and towed the race car on an open trailer.
Got 14 mpg ( hand calculated over a 400 mile trip ) Beats the heck out of 9 mpg towing the same car inside my 20 ft. enclosed. http://i63.tinypic.com/33xzonm.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/zxtzbb.jpg |

This was my load last month for our 600 mile one way trip to the outer banks of NC. Truck got just under 10mpg. I had figured for 7 mpg, pulling a loaded camper with a golf cart and going across the mountains. The savings was enough to stay an extra night. Truck pulled like a dream even with the 3:73's. Got to take the truck out on the beach to see the wild horses.

I finally installed my 5th wheel hitch and hauled my 5er a couple times now.... I just did an interstate trip, around 300 miles and it towed very well.....the 5er weighs in at just under 10k lbs....There was a big hill coming into the Catskill Mountains and it just dropped down into 3rd gear at 4000rpm doing 70 mph and it had power to spare. I was very surprised with 5th gear....even with some hills coming trough the mountains, it had enough oomph at 2200rpm so surge the rig forward and maintain speed without downshifting. I am really pleased with this truck so far. |

40 footer. 14k lbs. With 4.30s it does alright limited to 5th gear it maintains 65 no problem with plenty of passing power when I need it. Down shifts to 4th on long grades and 3rd if it's particularly steep. Gets about 7.6 mpg when pulling on flat ground at 65mph. This picture is in its native habitat... |
