hydraulic clutch fluid?

what to use here? some light hydraulic oil or blake fluid or ??
the MG and Triumph (brit) cars used mineral oil IIRC.

brake fluid. dont know what your driving tho

Brake fluid. Mineral oil sounds like trouble waiting to happen.

In fact it might say right on the cap what it takes.

you're right I should have specd for my '86 F250
the brit cars are all I've owned previously that had juice clutch.
thanks all.

Just use brake fluid. I have noticed at work now we sell a bottle that looks like brake fluid that says hydraulic clutch fluid. I'm sure someone is making money from relabeling a bottle of brake fluid.

Tom Norton 01-30-2011 02:22 PM

yep, the screw cap does indeed state dot 3 brake fluid - should have taken a peek.

Oh, trust me, it is on the shelf labeled as hydraulic clutch fluid, and some are adamant about getting it, even though I tell them it is the same thing...

Where do you check your hydraulic clutch fluid at on a 92 Ford 350 diesel?

On the far side of the brake master cylinder, there will be another little master cylinder bolted to the firewall. Mine is black with a black cap, yours could be white. Remove cap, remove rubber plug, and add dot 3 brake fluid until it reaches the step, or full line.

It's my opinion this design of slave cylinder is poor and apt to fail sooner than it should. There should be a bleed fitting at the base to flush any accumulation of water and saturated/discolored fluid. If I ever change mine again I will install it.
