Changing oil pan gasket on a 71 F100?

Picked up a 1971 F100 last Saturday with a 240 inline six, three on a tree, long bed, manual brakes and manual steering, no a/c, radio delete. Pretty much my dream truck since I was kid. Anyways I need to change the gasket on the oil pan, do I just drop the pan and let it lay on the crossmember to change the gasket? Or can I slide it out to change the gasket without banging into the oil pickup?

I don't need to raise the motor do I?

Thanks

I think if it was me I'd pull the motor and replace the pan gasket, front & rear main seals, and possibly the cam cover and lifter cover gasket too. I'd do the valve cover gasket too just for good measure.

If you're going to do it then do it right!
