6.2L tranny temps
 

I was just wondering what everybody runs for tranny temps as a normal, not towing, long trip where everything has a chance to warm up. I took a trip a few weeks back with about 25 miles on the e-way running 72ish and then another 25 running 55-60 on a two-lane. I had the gauge mode on the productivity screen with the trans temp showing and it got up to 205 F. I thought that was kinda high for just normal driving, not towing anything. Hope it doesn't cause me problems towing this summer with my 10K 5ver hooked up to it. The highest my 08 F-150 got towing that set-up was 218 F. I always thought 220 was the limit that a person would want to get thier trans temp to. Is this right?

I haven't hit 200 yet. Normally it's in the low 190's. The highest I've seen it is 196.

205 is very high for no load. My old 4R100 runs less than 150 in the hottest summer days with no load. Not sure if they are doing something weird with the newer trannies running them hot on purpose though.

Around 180-190 for me as well (longest consistent-speed jaunt so far has been ~20miles on the turnpike but truck was full warmed up). It gets up to about 140 after sitting all day in the parking lot in < 32 degree temps for my 13 mile drive (one way) to/from work.

I'm somewhat disappointed I have one gauge on the "gauge" screen. What about water, oil, f/r diff, transfer case, etc? At least water and oil would've been nice, the trans temp looks lonely on that 4" screen!

Yes it does. I thought the same thing. Put something else on there, the computer has to monitor it any way so why not display it.

Same for me also, even while towing. I've never reached 200.

I'll continue to monitor it. I only drive 10 miles one way to work with about 3 thru town and the rest at 55-60. It was 13 F today on the way home and by the time I got home it was only 130 F.How bout the guy up in Marquette,MI (sorry I forgot your online name). You recently ran a long trip from the U.P. down to the lower. Did you happen to notice what you ran for trans temp on I-75 all the way down here?

I am disappointed with this as well. I'm hoping the folks at Scangauge will come up with codes for the other temperatures soon. Right now it it not able to read much from the 6.2. Sorry for getting a little off topic.

My tranny hit 200 today after about 50 miles cruising 72 mph on the freeway.

This past weekend I put some solid miles on pulling a 2-place enclosed snowmobile trailer (not a big load). It was about 150 miles of constant 70 mph freeway driving.

It took a while, but the tranny temp climbed up to 208 degrees F and held steady.

I guess just maybe these 6 speeds like to run HOT! I wonder what they run with the torque of the diesel going thru them or plowing snow D-R-D-R-D-R-D-R-D all day long? :-rip

I was around 140 degrees for my 15 mile trip to work.... I was surprised though how quick the temps went up as soon as I started the truck and let it idle for a bit...

Interestingly enough, my trans temps are ALWAYS lower plowing than normal driving on the highway. I never see over 160 with the 5r110w plowing, whereas shell approach 180 pretty readily on the highway.

Do you use 4x4 LOW or HI?

Ran 50ish miles down the highway (45 min straight at 70 MPH) today. -5 degrees outside at 6 am --- trans temp at the end, 208F !! I can't wait to pull 10K. I'm so gonna SMOKE THAT THING!

Somehow, I'm beginning to wonder if that number is actually real. Anyone with an infrared point-and-shoot thermometer want to check the pan temp?

Either that, or they WANT it to run warm.
