5.0L vs 6.2L
 

Just for sheets and grins. I loaded on the same graph our 2011 F150 5.0L best stock run and our 2011 F350 6.2L best stock run. 5.0L is the winner }>

Pretty cool to see the differences and see how the driveline losses effect power to the ground. Hmmm maybe i should put a fifth wheel hitch in f150..:rolleyes:

Wow! That's really kind of surprising Mike. Thanks for posting that up. Looks like the 5.0 is every bit as powerful as folks are saying.

OMG! LOL well that's proof that the old saying no replacement for displacement isn't true!:-X24Stupid Ford engineers.

They have the tooling to make the 5.0 they should of made a stroker version for the trucks.

Its all in fun.. Just go's to show you the drive line losses in a Super Duty truck. Not really a fair comparo as the F350 is a 4x4 Crew Cab and the F150 is a 2wd short bed. Its been fun to compare the two motors so far. Transmissions are very very similar in function both being select a shift.

So the 5.0 makes more power and torque than the 6.2 at any similar rpm...Why aren't they putting the 5.0 in the superduty?

Do you really think that former V10 buyers would accept a 5.0 as a replacement? I don't think most would be happy about that. I believe the 6.2 makes a bit more power in the same chassis though. There is way less drive train loss in a F150 than a Super Duty. 5.0 Ecoboost in a F550? Sure sign me up!

Wellllll. I WAS going to buy a tuner from ya Mike but I'm not so sure I like you anymore:-D I could have done without seeing that. I pondered forever about going to a Superduty because 2/3rd of the time I DON'T need one. And now that they upped the tow rating to 11,300 # or something like that, I would have been just fine with the new F-150 6 foot bed and 5L. :-banghead Oh well, my Superduty will look WAAAY cooler on 35's then any dumb old stupid pidily 1/2 ton. That's my story and I'm sti sti stickin to it.:-X15

Actually, the 5.0 is rated to tow about 2-3K pounds less than that. Only the Ecoboost and 6.2 are rated for 11,300#.

This will show you how capable of power the 5.0 is when modified!

Heres a little towing report on the 5.0 i posted over in the f150 section yesterday.

Ok spent the last 2 days working on the factory tow/haul mode strategies with trailer in tow running our 87 perf-tow calibration. Background on trailer is it’s a max 7000 lb. capacity trailer and with the dyno gear in it, it is approx 4000 lbs. The crappy part about the trailer is it’s a brick moving through the air. Also our truck has 3.55 gear set.

Factory tow/haul strategies in a nut shell i think are weak. 6th gear is useless under 60 mph towing even this trailer. Coasting or slowing down the downshifts do not come on soon enough to keep the rpms up in torque range and when back in throttle multiple down shifts occur. Gears 2nd, 3rd and 4th are the gears the truck likes to run at under 60 mph towing this trailer but its in 6th gear at 50 mph lugging engine. Once rpm builds to 3000 plus the truck pulls like a champ but factory strategies keep rpms low.

For you guys going to tow a travel trailer camper or trailers over 5000 lbs the factory strategies will hunt all over the place in tow/haul mode. This is the same thing we have seen with the 6.2L SD tow/haul mode. Lugging the engine and not knowing what gear to stay in is terrible. (my opinion) And after about 150 miles and multiple changes the tow/haul mode works like what I feel it should keeps the engine RPMs elevated to take advantage of the torque band in this 5.0 less downshifting and taking advantage of gears 2nd, 3rd and 4th more. And by the way in our testing we avg. 10.4 mpg pulling this trailer at speeds to 65 mph and in stop and go traffic.
