diesel gas mileage 6.0 vs 6.4?
Im thinking about a 2007 f250 6.0 5spd auto vs 2008 f250 6.4 twin turbo 5spd with OD. any opionions on gas mileage, im being told that the 6.4 is not as good as the 6.0
Im going to pull a 8,000 lbs bumper hitch trailer so i think either 6.0 or 6.4 will to the job. |
Either one will do the job just fine. Each will respond differently for each driver so it is hard to say you or i will get xx mpgs.
I have the 6.4 and when I had my 8K tt I could achieve 9-10 mpgs driving 70 mph. empty I get around 13 city and up around 17 hwy unloaded. Flatbed trailers I can get around 11 loaded. |
in your photo it looks like you have snow tires ? how well to they work in snow/ice and do you have limited slip diff. , locking diff or neither?

truck came with those continental conti-craps so those had to go. Here is a link to what I am running. They actual do very well in the snow: Cooper Tires - Discoverer STT - On/Off-Road Tires Oh BTW, pulling my 5er is around 7-9 mpgs. |
do you know, when ford says limited slip . . . do they mean both front and back diffs on 4wd?
|
Just the rear. If you had in front then you would not be able to turn the truck worth a darn.
there are several lockers you can get for the front but they would all be aftermarket. |
Hmmmm.... couldn't resist. You won't get any "gas mileage" in a diesel rig.
My 6.0 is lifted on 35's with stock gears. I get about 14-15 mpg combined highway/town, I don't drive very conservatively though... |
from what i have seen and heard- stock the 6.0 get 2-5 mpg better (depending on driving styles, load, and other variables), but i have heard deleting the dpf on the 6.4 along with a tuner and you'll get better mileage than the 6.0

Try driving a gas truck un conservatively lmao Both trucks get decent to good gas mileage while stock. 6.0 will get better gas mileage stock then a 6.4. Thats a given. Tuned/modded - Gas mileage in that area will soley depend on how deep your wallets are for your mods youll do.. |
If you want a bone stock 6.0, with low mileage, no harmful mods / tuners...
That is your best bet. A 50,000 mile 2007 that is under warranty. |
Had both-- same truck chassis with the same rears the 6.4L we use currently gets 3-5mpg less than our 6.0L did but is out of the shop a hellova lot more.
|
out of the shop . .. ? what kinda problem did you have with the 6.0?
