1986 Ranger 2.3 Replacement of Alternator belt???

Sorry that you keep seeing my name pop up a lot today, but that's what happens when you have 25 year old truck.

Ok. I've replaced my timing belt before, but the mechanic today noticed my alternator belt was cracked and ready to go. He wanted $90.00. The belt costs $15.00 @ Autozone. I never replaced this and wanted to know how difficult it would be. He only told me if I did it myself, I'd have to be really careful??? careful of what?

I bought this truck new back in '86, and it did not come with factory Air conditioning, but I had ARA install an after-market A/C about a year after I purchased the truck, which the A/C hasn't worked for years.

So is this an easy doable task? Thanks! :-tap

I can't speak from experience of replacing this exact belt, but it's quite doable. I suspect the warning from your mechanic was to be careful of cutting into his profits by doing some of your own work...:D

If you replaced the timing belt yourself, you've already had to remove the alt. belt to get to it so you've done it before...
