Dually MPG???
 

Ok.. I have read all these post of guys getting 20MPG ... I have to think that there is something wrong with my truck... At 65MPH I'm lucky if I see 14-14.8 MPG steady cruise on highway... In the city 10MPG .... At any highway speed over 75MPH the mileage drops into the 12MPG range.....Is this normal.. I run Diesel kleen in every tank full... keep it well maintained... Its a 2005 F350 ,DRW(4.10) ,Auto, CC with a leer high cap... These are MPG unloaded...

Thoughts??

About right for a dually.

The dual tires kill mileage.

I assume you are doing winter diesel, which kicks out another 2mpg or so.

I am getting 20mpg and up if I push it... at 50mph.

The 20mpg trucks are single axle with 3.73 rears and your Leer hicap doesn't help your mpg either.

Gearloose1 are you getting 20MPG on a dually... Wondering what I can do to try and increase MPG...

Anyone with a dually care to share there MPG??? And any secrets to better MPG...

I have an 03 DRW and I'm getting about 16.5 to 17.1 at 65 MPH could be your leer high cap. I also use diesel kleen and wally world 2 stroke ashless oil in every tank. :-X09

NO NO NO!

I am getting 20mpg with a E-350 (1,000 to 1,500lbs payload in it all the time), with a single rear wheel.


The big secrets:

a) cetane boost (it actually works if you have low cetane fuel)

b) low / moderate speeds to cut wind resistance (50mph)

c) light foot most of the time (except when I am doing Italian tuneup)

d) trade it for a much smaller rig if you don't need the capacity

e) quit using winter diesel as soon as possible --- it is 10% less energy.

f) highest tire pressure recommended by tire manufacturer (makes for rough ride)

g) everything working properly - no alignment, brake drag, badly tuned engine, etc.

I get about 11 around town and can get about 13-14mpg on the highway.
My truck has 4.10's and a daily weight of 12,000 lbs.

You might want to try getting your FICM tuned ( I have not yet ).
Some folks see a 1-2mpg gain.

About right, same as mine. have heard about some getting 20 but I never try to get better I just drive it with a huge grin on my face..every once and a while I punch it and grin gets bigger....Damn I sure love this truck!!:-missingt

Yeap, I get about the same. I have 06 crew cab DRW with 4.10 rear.

With a 4.10 rear , On the highway keeping it under 2000 rpm's (not towing) I usually see between 16.5 to 18.5 mpg . While towing our 13k 5th wheel it varies to 10.5 to 12 mpg.
Unloaded city averages 14 to 15.5.

There are way too many variables that go into this. Those listed above are just a tenth of what goes into MPG.

You also don't know if they are calculating their MPG like they should.

I have never gotten within the average of what people have gotten on any of my vehicles. Sometimes that's just the way that it is. If you are concerned about MPG, try changing your driving habits as best that you can and try to eeck that much more about out of it.

Just don't get concern about other people's MPG as they might be doing with or not dealing with variables that may or may not apply to you. Nothing you can do about that.

I once got approximately 18mpg on I-95 northbound from Florida back to Pa. I stopped just across the border of South Carolina in North Carolina, and filled the filler neck up to the top.

I-95 was choked but moving, thank god. I drove 675 nonstop miles, and when I filled the tank up after a few hours rest, I filled it up completely, to the tune of 37 gallons. :-X19 Yes, I cut it very short, but after being on the road for 14 hours all I wanted to do was get home.

And, if you can believe it or not, I once put in a hair over 39 gallons :confused:.....I NEVER did that again. I like my injectors to much :-X10

But I average daily, in town and highway, about 12 MPG. Been the same way ever since I bought the truck brand new. Oh, and I do have a heavy foot, and with it being winter my mileage always hurts from more idling and winter fuel.

But as Tex says, your mileage may vary, but based on my experience, you are right in the ballpark.

In kansas city, winter time, mainly city driving but also hiway 06 cc drw 4x4 I'm getting 12.5. But when did long hiway trip was getting 13.5. But course that's reading dash. Buddy told me grill cover would def help with mileage during winter. I made post bout regearing to 3.73 but was told it would help in a sense. But if anyone has switched gears be nice to hear your opinion.

i have a airbox exhaust and an edge platinum tuner i average about 14.5 or so in the city about 17.5-18.5 on the eway cruising.. 06 drw crew cab with 4:10's

my 04 f-350 drw 4x4 gets 16.5-17 in the summer on the highway at 68mph and gets 14 in the winter,
