does allison make torqshift?
I know this might be a stupid question but does allison make the torqshift?
reason i ask is my buddy has a 2003 or 2004 f250 diesel and on the side of his transmission it says allison. i cant find anything liek that on my 08 f350 but still both trucks are labeled as torqshift transmissons. Any information to help clear this up would be great. |
That's strange. I thought the TS was a Ford built tranny, at least the latest 6 speed is.
|
thats why im confused. ive read that TS is based off the blue prints for allison, and ive heard rumors that its just because ford cant get the rights to the name but it is an allison. very puzzling.

No, the Torqshift is Ford designed and built. One of the posters here, Mark Kovalsky, is a rormer Ford transmission engineer.

I thought the Torqshift didn't show up until 2005

Torqshift came out in 2003 when the 6.0 Powerstroke was introduced. It wasn't available with the gas engines until 2005 though.

I was part of the team that brought the TorqShift to market. It went into production in 2003.
Allison had nothing at all to do with the TorqShift. The TorqShift does not even look like an Allison. If you looked at the powerflow you'd see that they don't even resemble each other. We did drive Allison equipped trucks to see how they worked. We then made the TorqShift work better, especially in Tow/Haul. As for the original poster's friend if that transmission really says Allison on it, and I doubt that it does, someone added that after it left the factory. |
The 5r torqshift is the beefiest stock tranny in a 3/4ton-1ton truck hands down. The allison is junk in the chevy trucks in stock form.

I am not a transmission guru but is it possible that someone mounted a allision PTO on the torque shift and thats what they are reading????
