92' 4.9 fuel system problems

my truck keeps wanting to bog down when i hit the gas and it also has a large lack of power. ive been told that it could be my fuel pressure regulator, my fuel pump or my furl filter clogged. i changed my fuel filter and it didnt help. if it was my pump going out on me wouldnt it have gone out by now? its been doing this for 2 weeks and before it started hesitating it would have slow starts where i would have to turn on and off the key a few times to pressurize the fuel system. now it does both.

I've went thru similar problems on my '93 f150 and it turned out to be the coil. My truck goes thru coils in maybe 4 yrs. They just don't seem to last. bjr23

could the coil cause the fuel system to de-pressurize though?

Checking fuel pressure is very simple. If you have a Harbor Freight handy, they will sell you the gauge for 20 bucks. Screw it onto the Schraeder valve & post your results.

okay ill check into getting the gauge

I just went ahead and bought a new fuel pressure regulator, i got it for 30 bucks off of ebay brand new. by the time i buy the 20 dollar gauge it just wasnt going to be worth it. thanks though

I dough the fuel pressure regulator is bad unless you had fuel in the vacuum line to it.
You still need the gauge to see if anything is wrong with the fuel system.

Most of the time this problem is the TPS and you need to check it with a analog VOM.
But the TPS may not show up when you run the codes.

What you need to do first is see if you have any hard codes or any codes stored in CM.
If you do not know how to do this go to this link:

well i did pull the vaccum line off of it and it had a really strong gas smell to it. i dont know if that would mean anything

Dan92 12-09-2010 11:24 AM

Where is the TPS located on my truck?

subford 12-09-2010 11:56 AM

Gas in the vacuum line to the FPR means you have a bad FPR.

The TPS mounted on the throttle body.
For more information on the TPS go to this link:
