Where is danielson? And where do you want to go wheeling?

Danielson is NE at the intersection of I-395 and Rt 6

Why don't you come join the CT chapter.

I live in Storrs and have been wanting to go off roading. I've got a stock drivetrain so I can't really do anything serious but I'm game.

And you have a super duty, makes things tough.

Shawn66mcl 04-04-2011 09:15 PM

I know it's a little bigger than most trucks but that's why I love it.

jthorngate3 04-04-2011 09:18 PM

I am not knocking it by any means. I really want one, just tend to be tough to find a decent trail that will handle a big truck like that. The trails I have found, I have to pull the mirrors in in a few spots...plus the length can make it tough.

You guys kibitz about your rides being too big for a bit of off roading :-missingt

I have to stick to logging roads :-X06

Or go out west where there are fewer trees.

Well what good are those tires lift and lockers if you can't even get off improved surfaces? I say you take it up the hill at monson. Plenty of room there.

The only 'improved surface' a logging haul road has is that its graded smooth before they start using it. After that its a washout as time goes by.

Those big tires allow me to pass over the same boulders that they left in the roadway.

Plus I can crawl through two and a half inches deeper snow than I was able to previously, before the snow starts bunching up in front of me. They don't snowplow those roads if they are not using them.

Also with Spring season here those roads get very soupy in places. A few years ago my old diesel blazer sank up to its frame when I plunged through the 'permafrost' on the way out.

I'd love to take it up the hill once at Munson.

Just that I made it to the first landing would be nice.

I figure though that I'd have to be one of the first ones to make a go of it, before everyone digs through the surface.

The stock-ish classes are the first to run. Once I've got some better tires on my truck I will make a run at the hill.
