Micah, you mean you actually had to WORK while at the office? What kind of nonsense is that?
I had a telephone pre-interview a few minutes ago, for an IT Programmer Analyst position at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. It was for an on-the-job training in maintaining a federal system they use. Unfortunately, it is SQL based.
The piss-poor training I received in-house with my current employer has left me unhirable for everywhere else EXCEPT my current employer.
My current employer's reorganization process eliminated the IT Programmer Analyst position earlier this year. I was informed and laid off in March. I am still employed but in a position I held back in 1998. As long as I stay on the night shift, my pay balances out due to the shift differential. If I get moved to the day shift, it results in another pay cut.
Sounds like the rock-and-a-hard-place scenario, doesn't it? Nine months of being on the hire-back list and today was the first interview / job opportunity I received...and get this, it was with another State of Idaho agency. To reiterate, the training I received from one state agency (current employer) to become an IT Programmer Analyst isn't sufficient to be an IT Programmer Analyst at another state agency. I'm not sure how I should take that.
I wonder if I was meant to fail from the beginning.
Anyway...that's my ranting and raving for today. Time to get something to eat before I head off to work in the position I originally held 12 years ago. (Ok, ok, that's the last rant.)
