4r100 or 4r70w
will one of these work where the other was? is it just a bolt up, or? i need to replace my tranny and i see both for sale on craigs list. its raining now, so iam not going to crawl under my truck to count pan bolts. anyway, i have a 1999 f150. are they the same bolt pattern from 4.6l and 5.4l? thanks

No. E4OD and 4R70W are totally different. E4OD is based on a C6 and 4R70W on an AOD
|
i meant 4r100 compared to 4r70w
|
No, you can't just bolt one in where the other used to be. The bolt pattern to the engine is the same between a 4.6L and 5.4L, but everything else is different. The length is different. The hardest part to overcome is that the wiring is different and the computers are different.

Thanks, That's What I was looking for.

i ended up getting a used 4r70w (thats what i had) what can i check out befor i install it to see that it will work? anything? or am i taking a gamble?
|
You could take it to a trans shop that has a transmission dyno. Not many do, but there are a few. It won't be free to test it, but it can be done.
Your other option is to tear it down and rebuild it. Most people just install a used one. Usually they work. |
Are these hard to rebuild? I've done c6's before, but nothing electronic. I was going to try to fix the old one. No reverse and slipping in toward. Just happened all of a sudden with no warning. Btw, reps sent
|
They are a bit more complicated than a C6. You'll need a GOOD manual. ATSG or Helm, Inc, have good manuals.

any special tools needed? do i just replace the clutch discs or..... any info would be great. best place to get a kit?
