Bronco will not start after rain
 

I have a 1996 Bronco that will not start after rain or heavy snow but will start if the weather has been dry even in very low temps. I have had the plugs and wiring replaced, it has a new rotor, etc. It is so regular and consistant with the no start issue I could bet on it. I've had it hauled to the garage only to have it start once it got there....any ideas?

grounding issue. Could be distributor related. Suggest rebuild distributor.

The distributor was rebuilt 2 years ago while we were trying to figure this out. It still has the same problem...

In the last few minutes I spoke to a neighbor who has an F-350 truck. He mentioned checking the PCM for water?? Where would I find it on the Bronco. He said they can be in different places on each vehicle. Wouldn't a problem like that cause it not to start ever (after it got wet)?

Driver's side kick panel, rain might be getting in thru the gasket.

Next time its wet out, try spraying the dist with WD40 then try to start. Next time try spraying the PCM then start. Do those new fangled broncos have the old Ignition control moduals? try that too. WD should dry it up and give you an idea of where your issue is.

if the distributor is getting moisture in it it will not spark, the dw-40 absorbs the moisture and it should start up if thats the problem, they sell distributor boots for the distributor.
i had this problem on my 1970 c-10 mud truck.
just a suggestion, try it it might work.

Check the resistance of the battery cables. Corrosion doesn't only form on the terminals and at connections. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Make certain you disconnect the cables before taking a resistance reading. Moisture compounds the issue if resistance due to corrosion is the problem. So humid weather would qualify.
