best battery for the money?

i am looking at getting a new battery, as mine is old and has trouble holding a charge, i dont know if i wanna blow like 200 bucks but whats the best battery for around 100 bucks?

Diesel_Brad 11-16-2010 05:10 PM

I personally will not buy any battery other than a deka. I dont care if it was 500

if you go to wallyworld im sure you can get some POS for like 75

personally putting a lot of money into a battery isn't for me. I bought one from my car from Advance last week. Use code BIG40 or LC123 and you get $40 off a $100 purchase.

Interstate, or anything made by them. O'Riellys Superstart batteries are made by the company that makes Interstate (Johnson Controls). I work for them, most batteries are either $80-85 (6 year warranty) or $90-95 (7 year)

I stay away from Exide made batteries at all costs. I personally have Interstate brand batteries in my vehicles, but I'll buy anything I know is made by them.

Costco batteries have the best warranty, but I've had to warranty them repeatedly.... so make of that what you will...

I base my opinion on the last 5 years. I have installed nothing but Interstates at any of the shops I've worked at (not by my choice, but the owners) and I have only one time warrantied a Interstate battery.

I used to buy only Costco batteries, because they had a longer warranty. I since became tired of warrantying batteries, when I discovered I could buy a battery I didn't need to warranty ;)

The batterys in my '85 (RIP) sold me.

One is a Interstate Deep Cycle I found behind my garage when I moved in. It was empty, I filled it with water, and used it for over a year. When I asked if it had any warranty, the Interstate guy said it was over ten years old.

The next battery was a pull from a '79 Mercedes 300 that someone had left at our shop. The battery had been put in, but the car was never repaired or picked up. It sat for 5 years in the car, and I've had it in my truck for 2 or 3.

All of my other cars have new Interstates, except my Mustang, and I've had no problems.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there only like 3 actual manufacturers of batteries that supply everyone? In my personal use I've found Interstate and Duralast to be junk. I've had pretty good luck with Farm and Fleet batteries (not sure who makes them), but the best brand I've had luck with is Motorcraft. Most of my batteries come from customers who wanted new batteries installed in their vehicles for one reason or another. You might try hitting up the JY, just familiarize yourself with the date codes beforehand. :-X22

I say go with a Motorcraft battery.

The one on my truck has been on since 2003, and I haven't had any problems yet.

My in laws have a 1999 Ford Taurus that was running on its original Motorcraft battery up until Februaury of this year!

GLR 11-16-2010 07:28 PM

Go with Motorcraft. We replaced the original battery on our 93 CV in 2004 with another Motorcraft. Still working fine.

crestfallinman 11-16-2010 07:54 PM

well motorcraft it is! thanks!

I was gonna say Duracell is better, but that would be kinda hard to setup....

crestfallinman 11-16-2010 10:46 PM

haha i wonder why duracell doesnt make a car battery, it would kick a$$!
