'93 - '95 Lightning ?s
Hey guys,
I'm trying to find information on the '93 Lightning motor I bought. What makes these things special? I'm dropping a '93 Lightning engine into a '70 Bronco. Almost there actually. I'm installing the Mustang SEFI and MAF systems on it. Getting ready to install the wiring now... But I digress... I just want to know as much about this motor as I can. It's a roller block but not cam engine? What does that mean? It has GT-40 heads, and intake right? What else is special about it? What was it rated at? Any idea on around how many horses it should be pushing after the MAF, SEFI installation? (Motor was batch fire stock.) ANY information would be greatly appreciated. Site links also would be! Thanks, Lee Wilson '70 Bronco, 2002 F350 PowerStroke Houston, TX |

93-95 Lightnings have GT40 heads, intake, Lightning only cam. Not all were roller blocks. There is a date code above the starter it will begin with E4 if it is roller ready. The roller ready blocks have the correct mounts for the roller lifters but don't use them. 240hp, 340tq.

Thanks for the reply. That's all the hp it makes stock? Doesn't seem like much (though the torque is nice, guess that's why). I may dyno this truck when done just to see what it puts out with the SEFI and MAF conversions. I also have headers and dual exhaust on the Bronco. Know anyone that needs the stock Lightning exhaust manifolds?
Thanks again, Lee |

You will never find any info on a 97 Lightning. They are 93-95 or 99-later.

i just found this out.Thanks
there were NO lightnings in '97. The first year of the 2'nd generation Lighting was in '98. it had a Eaton SC on a 5.4 mod motor. The 1'st Gen. Lighting (93-95) had a n/a 5.8 Matter of fact no f-150s had pushrods in 97, either a 4.6 or a 5.8 modular engine. The 250 and 350 still used pushrods for this year. Also the hp rating was 360hp. all the 2'nd gen. Lightnings are mass air. |

The first year of the 2'nd generation Lightning was 99.
