What have you done to your truck today (or recently)

I know that there is a similar thread in each model's repective sections, but I figured that the Montana Chapter could use one so here it goes:

I recently rebuilt the 351M out of my truck and reinstalled it. Also put in a new seat, ignition switch and tumbler, rebuilt front cv and rear drive shafts, new steering gear box, and new radiator. Im sure I forgot something but more to follow....:-tap

Spool&Go 11-07-2010 02:55 PM

Interior Lights and 2 Gauge pillar mount addition. Also waiting for these to come in the mail: Hella Optilux 2500 Angel Eye Lights
One of the fog lights by my licence plate in my pic went out so I took them back on warranty. Added another $42 to the $20 I got back. Figured its time for an upgrade. The halo (angel eyes) should look pretty sweet as well.

Will Post pics when installed.

Oh ya, I cant forget the new airbag replacement sticker I got. Gotta be safe.

Yup, looks sweet even over here. That sticker made me spit out my mountain dew and pee myself when I read it.

Spool&Go 11-07-2010 03:00 PM

Haha. Now thats the reaction I am going for! actually, thats the second reaction I am going for. The first one is females complying with the rules.

jredline1984 11-07-2010 03:03 PM

I want to turbocharge my engine just so I can buy that sticker.

So what have you done to your truck recently??

Spool&Go 11-07-2010 03:14 PM

Haha will do. It has worked out a couple times before but that was before the sticker. Maybe it'll happen more often?

Do it! That truck turbocharged would be sick. And BTW, for our chapter leader that is doing a project, you really should be posting pics of your progress. We wanna see !!

RedNNBlue 11-07-2010 03:15 PM

The most expensive improvement I've made lately was filling up the fuel tank!
Tomorrow I'm hoping to begin the install of an onboard air system to be followed up with airbags on the rear. As soon as it arrives, I'll be trying to find a convenient clean location for a new Cobra CB also.

I thought about that the whole time I have been working on this. All that I have is a crappy cell phone for taking pics. Hey Brit, do you have a digital camera??

Hey RedNNBlue,

I don't believe we have met so let me say hi and nice truck!

Please keep us posted on the progress with the airbags. I thought about adding a set or rear airbags to mine so I would like to see someone else go through it first.

Does convenient and clean ever go hand in hand?? Let us know how you like the cb when you get around to installing it. I would like to get one for when I finally am able to take the rig offroading.

TrucksR4Chicks 11-07-2010 04:10 PM

Of course I do, Cor. You should def be taking pics, I'll help ya out!

I haven't done squat Bryce, although I did attempt to take my carburetor off but had to call Corey to save me... my lack of tools is really becoming an issue.

jredline1984 11-07-2010 04:13 PM

I should probably get over there, lol

TrucksR4Chicks 11-07-2010 04:16 PM

No rush man. Take your time. There are always dishes to be done in the meantime don't worry.

Ya I understand that. Having the right tools for the job is half the battle. I hate it when I'm half way in and realize I need a tool that I dont have. Good job for saving her Corey. And if you have a digital camera, why haven't you contributed to the new thread?!

Someone please tell me I can take this even further apart. My automotive ignorance will really start to show now.

Spool&Go 11-07-2010 08:43 PM

Haven't had the pleasure of taking one of those apart brit. Never hurts to ask. Always ask! I have never worked on a truck near the year of yours. Maybe Corey will pipe in. Also ask in the forum for your truck. But don't venture too far. Don't wanna lose my chatty cathy buddy.

Matts72 11-07-2010 09:01 PM

Ah the good old Motorcraft 2150! I used to have a pile of those sitting around when I had my fleet of 70s Fords!

Hey look!! Its the same carb I rebuilt for my truck!!

2V carbs are easy!! 8D

EDIT: My bad, thats not a 2150. Looks more like a holley as the fuel bowl is on the side of the carb. Still easy though.

Don't worry Bryce, I'm certain no one will replace you!

Corey, is that as far as I can go with it? There's something rattling around on the inside of it and I want to disassemble it as far as it'll go!

jredline1984 11-07-2010 09:42 PM

Haha, its not THAT easy, lol. The top comes off along with the fuel bowl on the right hand side of the carb.

It is a Holley, I'm entirely certain. It says holley on the side anyway.

jredline1984 11-07-2010 09:50 PM

I knew it, lol

TrucksR4Chicks 11-07-2010 09:52 PM

So tell me how to get the rest of it apart then, sir.

jredline1984 11-07-2010 09:55 PM

Start pulling screws out :D

Matts72 11-07-2010 10:00 PM

Holley made the Motorcraft carbs, so yea, its a Holley Motorcraft. Its not a 2150 though... been a few years since I've had one.

That rattling is your float, about the only serviceable parts inside are a needle and seat, everything else is on the outside. If there was a tag attached to it, a parts store should be able to get you a rebuild kit with all the goodies.

TrucksR4Chicks 11-07-2010 10:07 PM

When I took that pic the damn carb didn't have a single screw of any sort in it and that thing is still stuck together, solid like a rock style.

jredline1984 11-07-2010 10:10 PM

I may have to look at the thing up close. Sometime those older carbs at little metal caps recessed in the screw holes to prevent tampering with the carb.

Matts72 11-07-2010 10:13 PM

You can soak it in a little Kroil or Berryman's carb cleaner, don't beat on anything, if you warp the mating surfaces it will leak really bad.

The good news is that those carbs are everywhere in junkyards - so if something gets damaged they are easy to replace cheaply.

LOL lucky enough for me, my first instinct isn't to beat it. If it doesn't come apart fairly easily I find someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong. And thats actually why I wanted to work on an old truck. I wanted to learn to wrench on something that parts can be easily and cheaply acquired.

Matts72 11-07-2010 11:04 PM

Old trucks are a constant source of wrenching! I doubt I ever had a week where something wasn't requiring attention on my rigs. Now with my Jeep and Ranger, things don't give me much trouble and my tools just hang out waiting dutifully for the next repair.

jredline1984 11-08-2010 08:14 AM

Its more a love of labor than a labor of love, lol

If its a "like a rock" thing, then no wonder something is wrong with it. :-D wonder who put chevy parts on your truck!?

haha just playin

I was wondering who was going to catch that!

Seriously though, its STUCK together. No amount of my girl power will free it.

Spool&Go 11-08-2010 10:42 AM

Not much gets past me = )

Oh you can do it! Have you soaked it yet?

Soak it, dry it, then use all the girl power you got! Without breaking it....

TrucksR4Chicks 11-08-2010 10:44 AM

No, that will be my next step... I highly doubt I can break it!

Spool&Go 11-08-2010 10:47 AM

I have faith in you.

TrucksR4Chicks 11-08-2010 11:17 AM

I shouldn't bother though. A new carb is probably in order. This one just looks terrible. Guess we'll see how it cleans up.

jredline1984 11-08-2010 11:19 AM

Somebody had rattle canned mine before I tore it apart. Looks new and runs great now.

Heck, the Edelbrock on the 'stang was purchased from a guy in Texas for $50. Cleaned all the rust out of it, shined her up, and its been working great for the last five years.
