87 Mustang 2.3L to '92 2.3L
 

just looking for some swapablility and insite.
Let me start with the history.
I picked up an 87 mustang in a trade for a couple of old sleds. The motor in it turned out to use more oil than gas and started to smoke really bad.
I had given to me a '92 motor for free and the story was that a bearing had ceased... well I took it apart and discovered the oil pump pick up tuibe completely clogged, I pulled the entire motor apart to find it in very good condition other wise and rebuilt it with standard bearings and rings.
now the problem comes is the DIS / dual plug thing. I was told by 3 different sources that I could bolt on the '87 intake and put the '87 distributor in and run it like a normal older 2.3 using only the 4 plugs on the exhaust side....NOT the intake/head is completely different.
Is there a way to use the '92 intake plenum with the old school TFI distributor and injection wiring without rewiring the enire ECM etc?
I am trying to avoid pulling apart my freshly rebuilt motor to replace the head with an older head. is this possible. any help would be apreciated.

yeah those aluminum panned 2.3 had a problem with the oil pan gaskets breaking up and plugging the oil screen,,,i have a spare 2.3 with the alumnum pan , still havn't opened it up to take a look at the screen but i will for SURE,, the guy said it ran perfect he did the 5.0 swap, but again that gasket has to be changed for sure,,, you need to swap in the old 87 intake/head as the distributor will hit the newer intake, i think i just posted in your other post you made not sure,,,did you do this swap yet? its been a while since iv been here

That was me and yes I have completed the motor job. I ended up using the 92 motor with 87 head but with the roller set etc. I used the 92 aluminum pan with the 87 type gasket and some sealer on it. my little car has the full oil pressure guage and I watch it closely on all of my "older vehicles" a soon as it goes a bit lower than expected I am always on the lookout and checking on things. thanks for the input.
