What is the diff in Willys & Ford Flathead?

I have a 74 F250 with 390/4 speed manual & Holley 600 4 barrel an I am looking at a 4wd vehicle easier on gas for back & forth to work an so on. I am looking at a 1946-1949 Willys wagon with flathead. But I was wondering what is the difference between the Willys & Ford flathead?

Are you talking the flathead Ford six verses the Willys six? If so, probably not much. The early Willys six was sold out to IHC in the mid 30s. This engine, IHC's Green Diamond, soldiered on into 1949. The "new" H series Ford debuted in 47-48 and was not much different than the IHC, in fact I've heard that Ford somewhat copied the IHC Green Diamond, especially with the cam-driven oilpump/distributor combination. So, if the Willys stayed true to its roots, then it shouldn't be much different at all.

If you are comparing the flathead V8 to a Willys six, or even 4, then there is obviously
more cylinders and the whole bent 8 concept that Willys did not have.

Unless it has overdrive, I doubt that a Willys wagon would offer a whole lot better mileage. I do stand to be corrected, though.

I am looking at buying a 52 or 62 Willys wagon an they says that one has a flathead & ones got a Super Hurricane. So there would be no difference between the two in the flatheads an the Ford 6 cylinder would be bout the same as the Hurricane engine. I am looking at it in case I have to put the body on another frame. The two I am looking at at look so so body wise an I figure the frame is probably bout the same.
