I was repacking the front wheel bearings (which look good) and found a spun race inside a hub. Bleh...

Finally got some pictures of the manual choke stuff.

Matthew, the Holley manual choke kit is a far superior product as far as operation. I speak from personal experience.

I actually have a manual choke assembly from a 2300. If this ever breaks I'll clean it up and put it on. I sold that manual choke 4160 I had, still baffled as to the high idle cam being about 1/8" off in relation to the high idle adjustment screw. I looked it up and some other people had the same comments about that. FWIW, it had the cheap 80's plastic choke parts on it. It was made the 245th day of 1987 and did not have a power valve blow out protector in it. Sold it to some guy wearing a Chevrolet service shirt, he said it was going on a 74 Nova, yet he was driving a Ford ranger. LOL

Holley didn't start installing blowout protection until 1992.

I know that, I was saying that, ruling it out of being a 1997 year model carb. Pretty sure a 1977 year model carb would have metal choke assembly parts, but I don't know for sure.

The Holley kit comes with a different fast idle lever, it puts the screw out and a little up to line up with the fast idle cam.

Today was a milestone in my 4.9 Engine build for my truck. I filled it up with oil and used a primer rod to spin up the oil pump.

Pressure came up, oil hit all the rockers and it looks good.

Just a few things to get done and she'll be ready to fire up:

Complete Engine Test Stand control panel
Install Water Pump Pulley and belts (need bolts)
Fill Radiator
Install Distributor, Plugs and wires
Block off EGR and install carburetor & fuel line
Perhaps a few other small things..

I'm still getting used to my new schedule, but I hope to get most of the list done Thursday / Friday this week. Getting anxious and nervous now...

Keep reporting!

I finally had the free funds to order my ARP head bolts. Also ordered new header gaskets. So, in theory, I can try to fix my leak this weekend. But, I have no spare oil or ZDDP, so it'll bee the following weekend when it gets fired up.

Bill, I finally found a picture of what I'm trying to explain. This is off of some forum where some guy put a new manual choke kit on his electric choke Holley. The high idle cam came with the kit, as he had stated in his writeup.

This is the exact way the 4160 was, except it had the factory plastic parts on it. The guy just simply bent it over and showed it corrected in another picture and it works fine. I have everything included in the Holley kit to make mine work. I pulled the entire assembly off the carb and tossed what was junk.

New greasable U-joint and hubs on the front axle.

At least this cap had needles in it!

That U-joint was UGLY!

bruno2 11-03-2014 07:42 PM

Jim, did the new joints have a zerk fitting in the end of cap?

ArdWrknTrk 11-03-2014 07:50 PM

No Zerk.
I need to use my needle (pointy) adapter to lube them.
But I can grease them!

Even those tiny buttons would not fit through the upright,
(I had to take them off and put them back on once the axles were in place) :o

Fixed a nasty moaning noise my truck had picked up over the last few weeks. I was going nuts trying to figure out what it was...an accessory going bad? Transmission problems? Bearings? Took my brother about five minutes to notice that the vacuum line to the PCV valve was collapsed and vibrating wildly. After smacking myself in the head for using non oil-resistant tubing when I replaced that hose last year, I stuck some nice 3/8" fuel line on there...problem solved.
