Little bit of work

I have been doing a little blasting...sand not explosives..
I used a hand held blaster that works pretty good for a cheapo..
I set my regulator to 90 psi and it works good..
I do a small section at a time(takes a while)..

I sand a little and throw a little primer to keep off the rust...
I plan on getting it all done with the primer and then come back and fix the small dents, little bit of rust,etc...One step at a time..

Here's a couple of pics of the roughout...as you can see, it helped a lot..

At least, if I don't paint it myself, I'll save MAJOR bucks on the grunt work..

Matt, what is the weight class on your truck? A lot of the F-250/350 trucks with the 351HO or 460 were over 8500 GVW and as a result are non-catalyst, mine is. If you have to have one, look at Archion's "project 359" herehttps://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1152648-archion-s-build-thread-aka-project-359-a.html
He discusses his exhaust plans for his 351W into his 86 F-150.

Mine is 7700 GVWR, light duty F-250. Also has a semi float 10.25. I wish mine was a 8600 GVWR so I wouldn't have cats, but oh well.

That's a good idea. Check the placard on the top of the radiator core support. If it says non-catalyst you need not worry about the cat. If it does say "catalyst" you do need one. I have used the Magnaflow cats on my build. Double check the GVW as they have ratings based on that factor. My 2-1/2" cats were like $103 apiece. They are only 11" long and 4" diameter, so they will fit pretty much anywhere in your exhaust system. Double check the application, but I think the Magnaflow universal cats are a good value. :-X22

I've been looking at the catalyst sticker for months, I pulled the original cats off. Boy were they junk inside. As well as the whole original junked out exhaust system, that old system had exhaust leaks everywhere.

Today I re sealed the heater housing, I still have a slight leak, looks like it could either be from some seam sealer right next to the heater housing or the antenna leaking water, I'm gonna use clear silicone on the antenna under the chrome cap, and where that old seam sealer is. And a bead of clear silicone over the new rope seal on top where you can see it.

But it was an easy job that only took about an hour taking my time.

That is not an uncommon leak source on both AC and non-AC trucks. There is a bit of a span between bolts on the top side right where the water runs down. I have seen a number of trucks where it looks like Ford slopped RTV in the crack. With AC the heater hoses run through where your temperature cable comes through.

Yeah, it seems to leak in the top left corner by the bolt, I'm just gonna run clear RTV across the whole thing, around the antenna and chip that old rotten seam sealer off and re seal that too. I noticed the leak is a little slower though, but it seems there is water dripping from a higher source, like from the antenna base. I looked up there a week ago and saw daylight where the antenna bolts to the body. So I suppose that's the majority of the leak.

Sounds like progress. Honestly I dont even know where I should begin to fix my hvac. Seems everythin in the system has got a problem with it.

do yall think my '78 cab will fit a '86 bronco frame i dont want to be critized, i know an 80's bed will fit a 70's truck with out mods so that means the body shouldnt be too off right?

I've been waiting for the Firewall reiforcement plate from Terrapin Mfg. I have a crack that runs from the bottom of the Clutch master cylinder, to the opening where the steering rack comes through. Me and a friend welded up a small bracket a couple months ago and it helped, but it still flexed. I ended up finding out whoever put the Clutch M.C on did not tighten it up all the way, so we assume it accelerated the weakening of the firewall. Well it helped for a little bit, but it kept getting worse, so I parked it for the time being.

Come yesterday, I had to use it for a job in the neighborhood. She worked just fine there and back. I was backing it in the drive for the night and we heard a loud crack. The Clutch pedal remained on the floor, The Clutch M.C ended up breaking in half! :-huh So once I get the plate, I'll be replacing the Clutch m.c, the slave cylinder, and all associated lines.

This doesn't strictly count as doing something *to* my truck, but I used the truck yesterday as an educational tool. I was teaching my group of Cub Scouts about simple machines, and needed something to demonstrate how pulleys work. Well...there's about a half-dozen of them on the front of a 300-6. I'd used the truck to bring a wheelbarrow and a 2x4 (to be used as a lever) to the meeting, so I popped the hood, lined them up around the engine compartment, and showed them how all the belts and pulleys were lined up...then I fired it up and they got to watch everything go.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure that with the exception of my own son, none of these kids (7-8 years old) had ever seen a vehicle engine in operation. They were fascinated by the whole thing, and after we were done we spent a few minutes talking about the rest of the engine, and what all the parts were and what they did. I'm hoping some interest in mechanical things got sparked in there somewhere!

That counts a lot more than *to* as you were teaching, serving the community. Good use of the truck. Well done!

I didn't use mine yesterday, but did on Saturday. Used Dad's truck to bring several of Mom and Dad's things to our house for distribution to the kids - with a thing or two for us as well. Didn't get any pictures as it started to rain the minute we got the furniture loaded so we had to put a tarp on it quickly. The truck didn't know the stuff was back there, but it sure knew the 30-40 MPH wind was there as the MPG dropped to 13.7.

Dorsai, once they get into Boy Scouts, there is an auto repair merit badge. I was one of the first councilors for it in my area.

That's something to keep in mind; I may want to pull the engine and/or transmission in a few years, and it might be nice to have a troop of young, strong, Boy Scouts handy to assist. :)

I'm glad that my A/C are my windows LOL

I wouldn't want to be without it around here. The temperature and humidity race to see which gets highest.
