Shaun - That's an interesting story. But, could you dream for two of the trim rings, please? And, while you are at it how about one for the ZF shifter boot? :-X22

The trim rings *should* be listed in the MPC. A part number would definitely help stir my dreams a little. ;)

When are you gonna get your own CD, Shaun?

I *almost* bought a copy yesterday.

But then I found a complete set of the 1980 Ford Light Pickup Shop Manuals, so that took priority over the CD. My next purchase should be that CD.

Haha she lives! Still got kinks to work out but I can drive her to and from work again.

What years and transmissions do the trim rings fit? Here's what I find for 1980:

Gary, as far as I know, just 1980 and 1981. I think there may have been a mid year cutoff date as well, so not all 1981's may have them.

It probably isn't pictured in the catalog, you may have to read through the listings.

It might not even be listed with the 4wd stuff. I'd look through any sections containing interior trim pieces as well.

Brand new voltage regulator.

Alternator and lifters should be in tomorrow.

Today, now that Sandy is gone, I put the spare tire carrier I had finally accumulated all the parts for on.

I'll look in the interior pieces, but it will be a few days before I can. And, by the way, I don't have the trim piece you are looking for. All of mine appears to be the later style. Sorry.

electric choke

Finally got to get a picture of the number on the relay(after removal)

This is the one that the grey wire to the electric choke goes to...

google only showed one instance(here on FtE)..

Anyway, maybe someone can get more info about what it is and what the heck it does...

Trav, it is probably the choke relay, I know 87 used it only on the 351 HO application. How many terminals on it? Is yours an under 8500 GVW truck? Never mind, F-150 would be.

It has 5 terminals on it..
I was curious and wanted to know if the voltage was controlled by this relay or if it just switched it from a resistor elsewhere..

The grey choke wire goes directly to this relay and I assume that the voltage was dropped back inside this relay..

Don't have a wiring schematic to know for sure..

But, I do know that when you turn on the ignition, it is battery voltage.
After a while(as it warms up) the voltage to the choke decreases to about 4.5 and remains there..

If you kill it and start it up again it will read battery voltage but drop quickly to 4.5..

Anyhow,, thanks for the reply..I was just curious...
The electric choke on this 1406 E-brock has always worked great..

I was checking it out as Matthew was hooking one up on his truck...
Seems different models (and engines) were all configured differently..

Oh Well, Welcome to the real World....Thanks again...Trav..:-X04

I can post a wiring diagram later, don't have time right now. The differences seem to depend on the emission calibration. The over 8500 GVW system was completely different. For one thing, through the end of 1987 the over 8500 GVW 351 HO and 460 had no catalytic converter.

I thought that, that relay was the horn relay for the longest time, guess not.
