Do we want to have pot luck's for the G2G? How do we want to work it? I am a fan of pot lucks but if you all want to fend for ourselves than thats fine too. Just a thought.

I like the pot luck idea!!! Maybe on one of the 2 days, or both works for me.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 01:10 PM

Yeah, I love them. I am always a good breakfast guy. I get up make coffee, start the pancakes sausage and eggs. OH YEAH!!! MMMM MMMM Good

Placermike 03-24-2007 08:24 PM

Potluck

I just got through speaking with the state parks reservations. The intent is to have a group site for the weekend. We can check in at 1430 on Sat and checkout at 1300 on Sun.

Based on this, a potluck for Sat dinner, and a breakfast on Sun would be a great idea.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 08:48 PM

I will probablly go up on Friday. I will get whatever site i can and then just move on Sat. BTW.. They are ok with Trailers arent they?

I live in a trailer. I camp in a tent or less. HAAA

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 09:38 PM

Well I can Camp in a tent.I have 5 for goodness sakes. I also have 3 White gas lantern's. White gas 2 burner stove and self inflating bedroll. I used to camp everyweekend form 17 till 20. Anyways I CAN tent camp but with the little one and 2 dogs I PREFER to trailer camp. Besides that it gives me a Freezer for after dark treats.

arctic y block 03-24-2007 10:11 PM

Yes at my age I would bring the Motor Home and put the two youngins and the dog in the tent. Sounds like there will be more dogs than people.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 10:14 PM

Dogs.
They are better than humans and don't F everything up all the time.
They can also like themselves.
God I wish I was a dog.

My understanding of the group site is that a trailer or dog would not matter. We will be renting a part of the park for us.

I am sure that they would not want dog packs running free, and we would not have the same rules as the single campsites.

We just keep it cool, and have fun.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 11:07 PM

Sweet,
I believe that Owners are responsible for their dogs. I do let mine run free when we are alone but they listen very well for fear of death. I will keep mine on a leash but I think you will find it isn't an issue.
We need to figure out cooking options too. I can bring a Propane grill but it is not the traditional kind that has a lid. It is for cooking steaks and chops.
Lets Just come up with a list of what we need and then we can divy it up.
I am Game.

Think we'll come up sometime Fri as well...Well I'll be driving the motorhome, so will have refer/range/oven/gen. I may bring the smaller 3500 watt gen unit as well, sound is only 68db.

What to bring for food for the pot luck is now a question. Are we talking 2 meals? or more?

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-24-2007 11:23 PM

Your gen must be a Dewalt or a Honda, HUH?
I think that we should go with Mikes suggestion as dinner Sat and Breakfast Sun.
Dinner , I think we should hit the costco and do steaks as the meat. For Breakfast... I am thinking Pancakes, Sausage and bacon.
But I guess it all comes down to what the mass of people want. And since noone has really sounded off it may be up to the four or five :-drink of us.

No it's a Champion... http://cpeauto.com/de3500RV_gen.htm got it new for under $300. I'll do a tool post on all the info on the Champion. An a link to the RV.net with 157 pages....

As to the food, sound OK to me......

arctic y block 03-25-2007 12:19 PM

Man this sounds like to much fun. What was the date again? 15 June? Motorhome is in Shelton. I just got to get down there.

No firm date set just yet. I am trying to get a headcount, and will see what is open when I make the reservation. The weekend of the 15th is booked already, but the weekend before and the weekend after is still open. Hope to announce the exact date in a couple of weeks.

Cooking for the Group

Based on the posts, it looks like we are wanting to have a group dinner and breakfast...Besides food, we need to figure out how we are going to cook it.

There are two fire rings at the Whidbey site, but that is all the information I have. Rex is supposed to recon the park for us.

I plan on bringing my large smoker, so I can do two or three pork shoulders for the dinner. I will also bring my dutch oven and tripod along with my Coleman stove. If I have room, I can bring a gas BBQ.

Does anyone else have Coleman stoves that they can bring? Things like eggs and pancakes are cooked much easier that way.

1. Propane flat grill
2. whitegas 2 burner stove
3. fire wood.
4. pancake mix
5. a couple of White gas lantern's
6. PLENTY of fuel for fires or stove or whatever

Let me know if we need to change plans :-drink

Placermike 03-25-2007 04:29 PM

Potluck Dinner

I plan on doing some shoulders and a pot of Chili for the dinner. Will commit to pancakes and sausage gravy for the breakfast.

Please add your input so we can have the menu and cooks set.

RECON'd (read quote below).

Another G2G thread. You keep me hopping. Here's a 3peat of my post in a couple of the other G2G threads, it has pertinent info to all of them.

Either one of those weekends in June are good for us. The earlier date would be best for JR's wife.

I'll bring a large propane grill and a Coleman gas 2burner stove. Two coolers full of ice. 2 cases of beer. 1 bottle whiskey.

Food: we'll bring a 10lb box of hamburger patties and 5lb of potato salad, and 3 bags of munchies (Doritos, chips). Or whatever we can to help with the potluck.

[quote]Donna and I equals 2 total. The dawgs are staying home :)

I posted this earlier in one of the other G2G threads:

Please give some feedback so I can go ahead and get reservations and announce a firm date.

Whidbey sounds good for the two of us. June *should* be clear of rain for the most part :~)

I drove through it last week on the way to Portland and it's open to overnight camping now. $19 a campsite without any hookups. $23 a night with hookups. Plus $10 a night for each extra vehicle, in the parking lot too.

Maximum eight people per campsite. There is a BBQ grill and picnic table at those sites, plus I'll bring a large propane BBQ.

The 'best' campsites close to the water are numbers #12 throught #15. BUT the beach is closed due to this winter's storm damage. The rangers might get teed off if we tried to surf fish there, but surely just walking on it would be Ok, sheesh. If not there's plenty of other beaches to walk on and let the dogs play (On-leash only is a law. There are three off-leash fenced parks on Whidbey.)

JR, your big 'ol RV might fit into the parking slot at the campsite. If not, there's a parking lot at the entrance that's a short walk to those 'best' camp sites (~300 yards). An RV could be real handy.

There are park bathrooms, showers, and water spigots.

Park Website and driving directions:

The log kitchen shelter is reservable. It includes a BBQ and four picnic tables, accommodating up to 30 guests. Call (888) CAMPOUT or (888) 226-7688 to reserve the facility.

I beleive trailors are ok but have to be in the group site parking area. The main area is tent only camping. I reserved the site for Fri and Sat night, so you dan't have to worry about moving camp.

Food Update

Going through the tread here is what I have come up with:

Equipment

Rex: Propane Grill, Coleman Stove

Placermike: Smoker, Coleman Stove, Dutch Oven, lantern

Marty: Grill, Lanterns, Stove, Firewood

Food

Rex: 10 lbs Hamburger, 5 lbs Potato Salad, Munchies

Placermike: 3 Shoulders, Chili, Slaw, Buns

Marty: Pancake Mix

So far it looks like we are lacking sides dishes, eggs, bacon or sausage, and desserts.

I could do the chili on a stove, and bake a cobbler in the dutch oven. I refine as it gets closer.

Put me down for a bucket of potato salad, and some soda.
Anybody have preferences on non-alcohol beverages?
