vin decode? and other stuff

can someone help me decode my vin plate? i just got her. she's a 1966 falcon club wagon. the guy i got her from said that when he parked it before winter, it would go forward and reverse, but after it sat for a couple months, it only has reverse. when i checked the trans fluid , the dip stick said to use motor oil only? i think some one has put the wrong dip stick in it at some time. so i don't know if it needs fluid or not? or if it's overfull! what model of auto trans did they put in these vans? does it have a replacable filter? how much fluid should it hold, if you don't mess with the torque converter. sorry for all the questions. any respones will be greatly appreciated :-wink

hey widbill, i will get it as soon as possible. i am having severe yahoo trouble, and cant get to my secret decoder ring.

you definetly have the wrong tranny dipstick! do not put motor oil in the tranny! [mabey thats why it will only back up now,]

the trannies are supposed to be c4's, if it is hung from the top at the mount, it is an econoline tranny. if it has a crossmember rigged up under the mount it is not an econoline tranny, and could be any ford tranny.

if you change just the screen and dont drain the torque it will hold 4-6 quarts.
if it wont even try to move forward, get some lucas trans treatment before you do anything else and try that.

thanks, jim.i'll try that. can't wait to get her on the road! :-D

My very limited knowledge of Econo VINs tells me that this is an Econoline (E) :D and that it has (or had) a 240 (A)

Don English at SEQ (?? Econoline Quarterly) can do a decode for you. You can find him at the OldEconolines group on Yahoo

Jimbare 02-10-2006 07:56 PM

finaly got yoohoo to work for me, her's your decode.

E13 = Falcon Deluxe Club Wagon
A = 240 engine
H = Lorain Ohio assembly plant
818401 = February 1966 serial number (1966 model)
090 = wheelbase
P = Antique Bronze Metallic (gold)
E130 = Falcon Deluxe Club Wagon, short body
D = Palomino (beige) custom interior
89 = van body
G = C4 automatic transmission
07 = 3.00:1 heavy duty axle (9 inch)
28 = Louisville sales district

Lubricant Refill Capacity of the C4 Automatic is :

Trans Model No. PCS-AC 7 qts 25oz or

Trans Model No. PCW-AH 8 qts 27oz

There you are ... need a dipstick for that trans for sure though ... hope that helps

Welcome to FTE

I'm not sure what you are asking for. Since I don't speak Italian, la scheda technica appears to me to be: the scheduled technical (Factory Shop) manual.

If this is correct, helminc.com should have what you need. They have other manuals as well.

An Econoline is not a car, it's considered a truck.

IFD / E / E14 / N / 3 / K / H / A62452

1FD = Manufactured by Ford Motor Co. in the USA, as an in-complete vehicle.

E = Hydraulic Brakes / 6,001-7,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

E14 = Econoline E150 Cargo Van as a rolling chassis or as a cut-away.

N = 5.0L V8 EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection).

3 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only.

K = 1989.

H = Lorain, Ohio Assembly Plant.

A62452 = 1989 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the Econoline's specific serial number.

In-complete vehicle: The Econoline was sold as a rolling chassis with no body installed, or as a cut-away.

Econoline Cut-Away. The body is cut off (away) behind the front seats, then a Motor Home body, or van body (or?) is installed by an outside body maker.

HILALE2010 11-02-2010 05:52 AM

the technical details

HELLO, THANK YOU FOR THE ANSWER.
I'm looking, ,the technical details or rather the substitution of technical certification,
That contains:
Power KW / CV
Fuel
Exterior Color
Year
Transmission
Marce
Displacement:
Cylinders:
Doors:
Seats
type tires

and other bounty
however, it is you, I am sending you a copy of the booklet of the car.
thanks.

NumberDummy 11-02-2010 02:47 PM

You must have a Motor Home. Since Ford had nothing to do with it, you'll have to contact the manufacturer for certain details like KW (kilowatts) / CV (whatever that refers to).

Most of the other info can be gotten directly from Ford Motor Co.

Contact Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn Michigan (all I have is the toll free 800 number that won't work from Festung Europa), pass along the VIN, and ask for a copy of the original build sheet...it's free.

You might have to pay the postage to Italy, but that won't cost much as it will be inserted into a simple envelop.

NumberDummy 11-03-2010 04:50 AM

I'm sorry, I cannot help you except for the info I've already typed in posts #13 & 15. You have to contact Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn Michigan and whoever the Motor Home was made by to get the info you need.

I called FoMoCo this AM. The lady I spoke with said you can contact the Ford Motor Co. Customer Relations Center in Italy for assistance with your US vehicle.

The number is: 39 06 91806 900. She also gave me two websites: fordowners.com & motorcraft.com.

She also said that Ford will provide you with a copy of your Econoline's original build sheet.

HILALE2010 11-04-2010 05:24 AM

Good morning,
I called the Customer Relations Center in Italy

it gave me the landlady response: This vehicle is American, you have to contact the constructor in america .

I have given our toll free number: 8003923673

I tried to visit the two websites, but I have not figured out where I do the REQUEST.

grazie.

NumberDummy 11-04-2010 05:38 AM

Ford has no other phone number for Customer Relations in the US, other than the 800 number.

I know, because I asked. Ford furnished the two websites I listed.

Call back, ask for the manager of the Customer Relation Center in Italy.

The lady I spoke with in Michigan...stated...info on US vehicles can be obtained from Italy.

I suppose, if everything fails, I could call Ford, furnish the VIN, then ask them to mail the build sheet to you.

The problem with a FAX is, it's a facsimile, which your gov't may not accept as they may want the original.

I sent you an email, send me a return email with the VIN and your address on it. I'll take it from there.

HILALE2010 11-04-2010 05:52 AM

hello, now I understand,
my camper is registered in England, so do not yet exist in Italy,
then I think you need a number in the UK.
THANK YOU, both strong

The Econoline was assembled in the US of A (Ohio), the UK has nothing to do with it.

You need the original build sheet. The Econoline is registered by the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), which will be the same if the Econoline was located in Timbuktu, Outer Mongolia...or on Mars!

Ford goes by the VIN, so there shouldn't be any problemo getting the info from Italy.

It's simple...All the pinhead has to do, is....type the VIN into Ford's computer system, and VOILA! All the info comes up on the computer's screen.

You're a knowledgeable man, Bill! I have another one for you to decode if you wouldn't mind. It belongs to my parents and they are curious as no decoders they can find online will help.

Listed as a 1969 Ford Econoline Chateau Club Wagon 123

E23GHD19272

123/MQ/E230/2382/6/17

I think it was separated properly, but I had a hard time reading it in the dark! LOL! Thanks very much!

Another VIN decoding request

This website is great. It even helped me find the VIN in the first place, which was no easy task as this project is a little rusty.

Bill perhaps you can help me too. In the summer I purchased what I was told is a 1961 Mercury Econoline Pickup. It has the Mercury emblem on the front but the tailgate is gone. The doors have been changed to 67 Ford Econoline doors I was told and the pillar tag is gone.

After reading through this web site I found the one last place that wasn't missing due to rust (brace behind the taillight) and started scraping layers of paint off and Voila....here it is.

E10SH123542

Is it what I was told and any other cool tidbits of info you may have?

Cheers,
Scott

66gpw 11-18-2010 05:25 PM

Hi Merc power

I can help a bit here also.

The E10 is Econoline Pick up.

S 144 CID motor

H Lorain assembly plant

123542 it was assembled in Dec of 1960 for the 1961 lines.

I was in contact with a fella in Regina who just bought a very good restorable truck that was built in the second week of production on Econolines. He is thrilled.

I hope this helps. Another location for the serial number is under the lip of the doghouse usually on the right side.

MercPoweredMerc 11-18-2010 10:56 PM

Great,

Thanks so much. I am pretty excited about this one too. December of '60 must be fairly early as well. I guess it is a low number Mercury pickup since I under stand there were just over 1000 from '61 to '67.

66gpw 11-18-2010 11:11 PM

Yes Merc Econolines are hard to find, but I seen a fair share. I got 3 Econoline vans here. The fella in Regina has a truck, I bought one truck for parts from a another fella in Regina that had a Merc truck and there was one for sale in Unity Sk. They were asking $5000 for it and it was a rust bucket and they did not know the year and were not willing to check things out for prospective buyers. Their price tag was way too high for what it needed done.
I have a 61 Econoline shop manual and a 65 and 66 manual also.

Is this VIN similar to your Canadian Mercury Econolines?

The reason I'm asking is: Thru 1965, the VIN's used on Canadian trucks are totally different than US trucks.

Assembled in Canada solely for the Canadian market: Mercury M100 or Ford F100 VIN: 4991014L-123456A.

The VIN on this Econoline seems to reflects US usage, but I'm not that familiar with Econoline VIN's of Canada only.

Mercury Econolines were only sold in Canada when new, not sold in the US.

MercPoweredMerc 11-20-2010 03:18 PM

This is where I am unsure and was looking for answers myself.

This is what I know. I found the owner from 30+ years ago. He is the one who put on the other doors from a Ford Econoline, I am assuming a Canadian Model. The VIN on the drivers door is E16AH836794. I was told they are from a '67. He claims to be certain it is a '61 Mercury. He says he owned several Econolines over the years. Looking at it it does not appear to have had the other holes for the F,O,R,D across the front. The Merc emblem appears to be an original part of this vehicle.

Because this is the first one I have owned I have no other means of comparison. I saw a picture of a nicely redone yellow Mercury P/U on this sight. Perhaps he would be willing to share his VIN for reference sake. Here is the link.

1965 Mercury Econoline 4x2 - My Dad's Mercury

Thanks again,
Scott

66gpw 11-20-2010 05:38 PM

That yellow one belongs to a fella in our Man./Sask. chapter.
I have I have two Mercury vans here and a friend has one also.
Is there another tag on the A pillar with axle and trans numbers. From Oakville Canada. If there is the first digit will be a 5 for Mercury or a 6 for Ford.

The 2nd serial number you show says the tag was off a panel van and the motor was a 240.CID Built in the Lorain plant. The 836794 says it was built in March of 1966.
Not saying that by the time it sold it was sold as a 67.
PM me and we can send pics back to each other.
