My 1960 Mercury M100
Finally brought her home last Wednesday. I can't wait to start tearing it apart.
My iPhone's camera lens is pretty scratched up so the photos are crap. Will have better ones soon. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2513801PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2555807PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2555859PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2555839PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2555929PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-2555943PM.jpg |
Nice find StatikPulse, where did you discover it? It looks like it is still driveable.
And welcome to the forum. |
That is a sweet find. That is going to be an awesome project!
|
Thanks guys. Found it in a small town about 2 hours away from Ottawa. The guy I bought it from got it from a farmer about 5 years ago who was driving it daily at the time. It's been sitting ever since so it'll need some work to get her up and running again.
|
Wow, nice snag there! I've seen a few of these at car shows... They have a lot of potential IMHO. It looks like this one needs much less work than most. Keep the pictures coming!
|
Way cool, I love Mercs, want one.
|
Nice Fridge. It shouldn't get away from you with those blocks!:-X04 The seat looks great. Cool to see the radio as well.
|
Now the work begins! Overall it looks fairly good! That book will save a lot of head scratching
BTW Welcome, its good to have another Canuc-n-fridge in the desert. |
That's an awesome truck! Welcome to the world of the orphan truck, looks like you have a great start. Keep us posted. We love pictures.
|
Thanks guys! I'll make sure to update this thread as I go. :-drink

I'm watching you;)
|
It looks like a solid foundation to start from. Congrats!

Please tell me that you're doing a complete resto & not Modding the Olde Girl.
There were less than 12,000 of the '60 M-100 manufactured. |
I might play with the stance a little and improve things like the brakes, but other than that she should be stock.
|
Found the block casting #. If I decoded this properly, it's from 1971 and was meant for a Lincoln.
https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-1090237AM.jpg Took the intake and oil pan off last night. Pretty clean on the inside. Couldn't find any debris in the pan. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-1183632PM.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...-1184951PM.jpg |
Busy day. Everything is apart, aside from the crank. Engine was definitely rebuilt not too long ago. Quite a bit of carbon buildup on the top of the pistons and two of them had broken rings (may have been from the first time I turned it over by hand).. but other than that everything is really clean. Quick measurements show the cylinders were bored out 0.030". Crank journals have a mirror finish. Head(s) are D8VE-2A2, so '78+ heads. One of the head's second number is scraped off, so they could very well be mismatched (D0V3 or D3VE). They look identical though.

No idea where it fell off of and can't seem to find any good info on this company. They might not be around anymore. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...0/a53dedc1.jpg |
Buddy of mine is down from Halifax so I put him to work. The cab is down to hit's skin and only 4 bolts left holding it to the frame. He really wants to get it off before he leaves on Wednesday.

Looking good; quick tear down!
|
Nice looking truck. Do you plan to reinstall the transplant engine and trany? I agree with Col Flashman this trucks deserves to be a stock restoration, but it is your truck, do as you wish.
|
That is such a Koool Merc. you have there!!! That is one to be proud of! :)
Good Luck and keep us updated ;) |
Thanks guys. Yes I do plan on keeping the 460 in there. For the most part, everything else will be stock.
Great progress over the weekend. Managed to get the cab and the box free from the frame. Now to figure out how to spread these things out. I'm thinking the box and cab will go in the backyard while working on the frame and I can roll out the frame to the driveway when I need to work on the cab or box. Luckily I also have a garage door in the back of the garage so it will be easier moving stuff around. If I'm still at this location during winter, I'm thinking of setting up a temp. garage in my backyard as close to the garage as possible. That way I'll be able to just open the door and access stuff easily. I'm hoping the house sells before though. |
Well after a long hiatus, it's back to work. I've been holding off doing anything major since the house was for sale. The bad news is there were no serious bites on the house. It's going off the market this week. The good news is, work is back in full swing.
I setup the tempo over the weekend in the backyard. It fit perfect between the shed and the garage. Will make it easy to roll the frame in and out. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55feb791.jpg Finally got the cab off the frame thanks to my bro. Will be building a platform on caster so I can move it around. Next step is sandblasting though. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps821bdfd1.jpg Frame was moved to the yard. Just barely fits. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps83c24aa3.jpg |
Sorry you couldn't get what you wanted for your house but glad to see you're back on the M100. Enjoy your pics. :D

Thanks for the interest, and good luck with your 57. Jealous about the big window btw :) |
I've been slow at posting, but there has been some progress. Motor was sent to the machine shop. Here's the package when I picked it up.
https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...psf598a894.jpg The block deck and heads were all straight, no cracks. It was rebuilt once before so we bored it out .060 over. Decided against the typical Ford blue for the engine colour. Painted the block gloss black and cast aluminium for the heads. The machine shop had already painted my heads blue for some reason. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5b476ab5.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...psf626db00.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps84a24005.jpg Crank was turned and polished. I used King main and rod bearings, Speed-Pro Hypereutectic Pistons, Dura-bond cam bearings, Comp Cam hydraulic flat tappet cam, lifters and timing chain. https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...psc7f94203.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps73ce17ad.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps70947ace.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...psa69c32b0.jpg https://i136.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2b917260.jpg At this point I'm just missing the pushrods to complete the assembly. I'm putting the engine aside and continue working on the cab. More on that soon. |
Dont loose any sleep over modifying a Mercury, we still have plenty of them up here!
