My local Carquest just got switched over. :(
Another (bigger, more commercial) one just switched in the next city over. Going the other direction -in Stamford- Advance refurbed their first store and opened a bigger one across town, two blocks from Autozone. They are spending a lot of money. I, and MANY others on this forum, refuse to deal with Rockauto no matter how low their prices are. I'm sure all that old Carquest inventory is being reboxed by them right now... |

Matthew,
Green/black? My truck has green/red for exciter power. Was your truck originally 1G? |

Already wrote that part number down just in case I need it. Thanks!
:) Better jump right on it before they sell out. ;) |

It looks like you got a 3G regulator plug rather than a 2G, or it may even be later. Somewhere Ford swapped the green and black/white wire locations As long as you kept the green and yellow wires connected to the correct locations on the regulator you should be OK. Where the real problem comes on these systems is the yellow voltage sense wire connects to the harness beyond the fusible link. If the fusible link fails, the regulator is reading battery voltage and cranks the alternator wide open, burning it out.
Archion had a brand new LKQ alternator destroyed by a bad splice in that harness, one of the reasons I ditched that system on Darth. |

Well, picked up the adapter from O'Reillys. And of course, it doesn't fit either. So now I'm thinking the distributor is the problem. There's no Motorcraft numbers on it, so it's a brand new Chinese piece of garbage. Luckily the store I got it from has another one, so I'm gonna take the O'Reilly's adapter with me tomorrow and see if that one works with the adapter.
Here's the problem I'm having. You can see in this pic that the adapters keep cracking from the bottom up, and it's clearly an expansion crack. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...ec426a0555.jpg In this one you can see where the lip of the distributor sits on the lip of the adapter, and not inside it. It's a very small difference, but these adapters will not go on without cracking. This pic was taken with the distributor fitted inside the adapter as far as it will go before it stops. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...204b5bb2d9.jpg |
So its been a while since I have been on here. Life catches up to you sometimes. Anyways I have an 84 straight six 4spd that came with numerous problems such as all the emissions have been unhooked and wires cut a spliced. Everything is all better now the truck runs great and pulls great. On a good fill up i can get 18mpg but I usually average 13-15mpg alot better than the original 8mpg. I have replaced everything under the hood except for the engine at this point. Working on a soft brake issue now and soon need new shocks. But I would like to think everyone for helping me out!
|
That is good news, 84StraightSix! 13-15 mpg is an improvement of 62.5 - 87.5%, when compared with the original 8 mpg. :)

Shaun - You must have a bad dizzy. All of the adapters can't be bad.
|
Hey, Gary, it's probably one of those Amazon ones.
