Dave Sponaugle 03-06-2010 07:28 PM

Going tomorrow.
With the warmer temps today and in the forecast tomorrow, I thought I would let a little more snow melt away fronm the truck so I could see under it hopefully.

Haha... that is definitely debatable. Could go either way depending on the day of the week sometimes :-X24

At first climbing around like that was pretty dicey but I got used to it pretty quick. I'm about 300 feet up in that picture.

Yeah i have a hard time getting on the roof of my house.

Way back in the 70's I did iron work, without all the safety equipment you have on in the picture.

Things sure were different back then walking steel that was not secured by anything but gravity over 100 feet up.

1975StroppeBaja 03-08-2010 08:14 PM

Yeah, I've heard guys talking about those days. Riding down off the steel on the headache ball of the crane. Things like that

We've always had that gear on since I've worked there. Makes my wife feel a little better about me working up there

Here's a few other pics from that day....

Can you spot me?

edit -- here's a pic of the telescope itself, for those who haven't seen it. That white rectangle on the lower right side is a surplus army trailer.
In that position, its almost 500 feet tall. The dish is 100 meters in diameter and its 2.3 acres in area.

Sounds like things are startin' to shape up!

If the weather is decent do you guys want to try for a cookout?

Nothing fancy, just burgers and dogs with a couple sides?

Several parks not to far from the mall we could drive over to and probably find a grill and some picnic tables at.
