Hooked on the build up

I must say I am in awe (jealous) of the build..My hat off to ya "carcrafter22". The truck looks awesome and the diesel takes it a step above.and the turbos and fabrication to another planet!! ..--Looking to elect you gear head of the year.
First off I must say i am not a big Ford enthusiast, not that I havent owned or loved the ones I had. I just leaned towards GM..mainly older trucks and <st1><st1:city w:st="on">Pontiacs</st1:city></st1> because that is what I grew up with and had plenty of spare parts....Please No hate mail...lol.
Ok to tha point..I stumbled across this forum & post googling a sub frame swap for my latest 2nd gen Trans Am build and I could not quit hitting the next page arrow. I stayed up all night from page 1, and was just waiting to see what came next.I just knew it would end too soon like a bad movie but to my surprise your last post with pics came up today. I followed all the reply's, specs ,and pics..hats off to the other guys builds out there too. I own several 55-59 Chevy trucks and fell out of my chair when you mentioned a frame width around 34 inches. The outside measurement of the frame rails are the same width. I have seen and owned a few Mustang 2 and camaro sub frame swaps on these trucks, but that takes the cake. It made me think old school, Take something simple / reliable / strong and make it work.
The Transam. might go on the back burner while I roll the truck back in for a few brainstorm sessions and junkyard searches for a blue oval transplant..rear IS too..I loved my T bird.
Once again, my hats off to all of you...(looking at green patch of grass on the other side) Awesome projects, ideas, and support. Just think the world of the swaps and builds. I will check back often..

Thanks

Been driving the 6spd around for a little while and I like it alot, the gear ratios are perfect in everyway so far. I am going to swap in some 3.73 gears for a little more performance and to bring the rpms up so I can actually start using 6th gear. Right now I cant use 6th gear since it lugs the motor down to around 1300rpm even at 70mph.

I satarted installing some A/C today. I had a brand new old air products A/C system for my 66 mustang sitting in my shop but since I havent been messing with my mustang lately I figured the truck needed the a/c more than it did so its going in. I am very happy with the look of it so far, its much more compact than any of the current offerings for a 67-72F100 truck and it should more than cool the single cab even in the 100*+ heat of Texas. I like how it all sits in one tight little package on the passenger side instead of taking up the entire underside of the dash like original and aftermarket a/c systems do. I am considering moving the vents from under the dash to inside the dash for more of a custom and cleaner look. If I choose to put the vents in the dash I will put the 3 center vents where the original heater knobs are (just under the radio) and install the 2 corner vents (the ones by the doors) as far the the edge of the dash as I can. I think this would make for a nicer look but for now this setup will work.

Here is a pic for reference, I will post more later on as I make more progress.

So I got it all working today, I still need to figure out the controls I am going to use but for now it works well, I need to install the driversided vent and ducting as well as decide on the actual controls so I dont just ahve a couple switches hanging out of the dash but its nice having a/c in the old bump.

I am happy about how compact everything is and how its a complete kit, the hoses were long enough to run under the motor along my aluminum crossmember and the the compressor mounted on the lower part of the motor making for a pretty clean look.

The controls are simple enough that I could make the stock 67 pull knobs work but I dont really care for them anyway and this truck is so custom its not like they need to be there to maintain the proper "look" of the truck so they are getting tossed. I am currently looking around for some cool looking controls mostly looking in 50-60's model cars and trucks. I still may just go with some 66 mustang controls in place of the ash tray since its getting welded up anyway.

The unit blows pretty cold and is pretty quiet, I cant beileve how queit the cab is now with the windows up and I still have to fill in the huge hole in the floor for the shifter and several quarter size holes in the firewall that arent being used anymore. I guess my dynamat is really doing its job well I can only imagine how well it will work once I dynamat the doors and roof not to mention add some insulation and carpet.

Here are some pics.

Yes I know the engine bay looks like crap now but I dont care, I will be painting the truck soon and when I do the engine and trans is coming out to finish boxing the frame and a full detailing of the engine and engine bay will go along with the new paint job so it all looks good as new (err... better than new hopefully)

Crown Vic spindle height.

Hello,
Cameron her from Northern CA.
I just picked up a front IFS unit from a 05 Crown Vic yesterday and I hope to get started today mounting it.
I need a little help determining the spindle height with this front end.
In relation to the mounting surface of the aluminum cross member (bottom of the frame), where does the spindle end up?
If I can determine this, I can better decide which tire wheel combo options I will have.
Thanks,

Car crafter what a/c pump did you use? How do you wire up the alt on the 4bd1t.

I am using the factory isuzu diesel a/c compressor. I never used the isuzu alternator, I am using a 3G alternator from a 95 escort, its the small case, I tried the large case 3G from a 95 mustang but it hit my hy35 turbo intake piping and the piping on the twins.

carcrafter22 09-08-2009 02:51 PM

I would forget the internet, just start searching all your local junk yards they are generally easy to find.

Hey Firebug,
Several months ago this guy michael.kaul@gmail.com from Chula Vista (down near San Diego) posted used Crown Vic parts on craigslist. Sounded like he had several retired police cars, etc to choose from. He quoted me a complete hub to hub '04-05 CV front supsension with brakes, R&P, steering linkage, etc for $350. I don't have his number but you can try his email if you want.
Hope that helps.
